Yep, Waldo frowns upon direct linking to a song.

The singer kills this in my opinion.
The band has some good riffs, good sounds and pretty tight playing. Is the singer a guitarist as well? If not I'd give him the boot....soon.
The Bass sound could use a bit of midrange but otherwise the song is pretty good. The cymbals could use some work but it's hard to say exactly what in mp3 format. I like the instrumentation quite a bit.

yeah, he plays guitar too. Personally i liked his vocals for this stuff. I guess a lot has to do with what kind of stuff you listen to and are used to hearing. If you're used to hearing commercial radio hits, then I would agree that this isn't the most desirable style vocals. What specifically didn't you like about the cymbals?

Really bassy everything, especially the bass drum. How'd you mic the drums? The singer sounds exactly like the guy from Thursday.

Where are you in VA?

almost sounds like phase problem with your cymbals...but just on the hat...like someone else said...hard to tell in MP3 format...other then that...sounds like a pretty impressive drummer....
the hard panning of the vocals that start at 1:27 i think is panned a little too hard. maybe just center them a little..
other than that...good song...i dont dislike the singer....but he reminds me too much of alot of the punk-pop music on the radio(im not a big fan of that)

I don't think the vox sound that bad. Maybe they just stand out too much in the mix, try lowering.

He sounds like he's trying to yell to hard.

Drums--------- sound tight, very nice.

Guitars--------the verses sound good to me. In the chorus try adding a track of rythm guitar. It sounds kinda funny with that one guitar by itself. Works good in verses but not in chorus. Just try to add a big fat distorted guitar track in the chorus.

great start, sounds good..............lata!

Thanks for all the comments. I would like some more specifics regarding the cymbals if anyone can pinpoint it. The overheads were just two oktava mc012's spaced pair. There could be some phasing going on as I might not have gotten the spacing right. I probably should have just gone with the trusty x/y pattern. Anyway...all the drums with closed miced as well with the usual suspsects. I eqed the kick alot to try and get it to sound the way I was hearing in my head. I don't think I exactly got it. I was in a friend's studio the other day who used a re20 up closed and a d112 on the outside of the head and the re20 really stuck the low end i was looking for so i might invest in one of those.

I agree with the vox panning in the chorus, it should probably be less severe. I really like the effects of panning stuff and I may have gotten carried away.

FattMusiek-I'm not in virginia, the band is from richmond and newport news, I'm in delaware. They came up to record. I knew a couple of them from some bands we toured with this summer.

Any other comments would be greatly appreciated.

the whole mix sounds really bass heavy. i think it will benefit a lot from less bass. less boom on the kick and more pow? i like the vocals. the arrangement works for me. i record/play shows with bands like this all the time and i wouldn't say a bad thing about the arrangement. the recording just seems very low end heavy. maybe a bit more high end on the toms too? the hi-hats do seem out-of phase a bit. good mix!

yeah. too bass heavy. it seems like the guitar on the right is louder than the guitar on the left. i would definitely put more punch in the kick. that's what the kids like these days. it would fit really well in this music. i don't necessarily think the vocal panning is too much. if you put some effects on it, it might fit better. those are my thoughts.

I read a few of the posts and think things have been covered fairly well.

Tough to put my finger on why the singer doesn't work real well. He has decent power and ok pitch. It's just the the delivery of a few lines that just don't come out smooth I guess. He's not terrible though. Lots of compression on the vox?

One thing to add... The panning of those vocal parts in the middle was ok. But it might be a bit too wide. Sounds weird on headphones. I'd say - stay with the idea, just not so extreme.

My thoughts...
