Ok, thought someone might like to hear what I do, so here's a song from a promo for my solo project that I recorded a couple of weeks ago. It's not intended for release, so I didn't bother to correct the mistakes. I will probably re-record it all if I get signed.

I play everything myself, in case someone wondered.

this would probably make great background music to a candlelit dinner, with that someone special..

but...the drums suck....sound like my mp3 player was stuttttering..

and the words are???

This is apparently not your kind of music, which isn't something that surprises me at all. However, I myself try to be open minded to most genres and try to sort out what's good or bad, not comparing it to any other genre or specific taste. It's too bad that you, mixmkr, can't do the same.

.... your recording chops have a loooong way to go, no matter what genre you play...going by this mp3 you posted. I am a lot more open minded about musical styles than you probably can imagine, but I might assume ALL your stuff sounds like this piece of tripe, going by your defensive nature. I commented on your poor drum sound, and that I couldn't make out ANY of the lyrics. If having those two qualities in your music is important to your genre, excuse me. However, I usually find those to be flaws.

as for the candlelit dinner....How the fuck do you know what I like to listen to?;)

No, I would not call it to be defensive at all, I just tried to make a point. It his highly likely that, if you live in the US for instance, try to compare it to nu-metal or whatever people wish to call it. This is black metal and should be compared to other black metal. Period.

I don't ONLY do this kind of music. I've played many different styles over the years and I have a very broad taste when it comes to music. So your assumption is not right whatsoever.

I understand that probably no more than 1% of the people on this forum might actually think that the music is good. However, I posted the track here to get some opinions about the production, mainly. But ok, you didn't like the production. Sorry to hear that.

Downloading now, I can't wait. 70%..........80%..........90%..........91%
..........91.5%..........done.
Oh me god what the hell was that. Every thing up to :40 was complete mush. From there to 1:00 was ummmmm a little better, minus the vocals of couse. I mean why bother. The change at 2:50 is Ok, drums are still burried, as well as the vocal problems. I guess that's it. I guess some parts were Ok. Alot of mud though. Is there bass guitar in there?

Im not into devil worship so I couldnt comment on this (song?).

Sam is into some heavier stuff so maybe he can give you some pointers on what needs to be done with it.

Maybe. Who are you again? ;)

It's too fast for mistakes ;) Yeah, there's a market for it but with all that stuff going on you'd have to be a world-class engineer and have about 3 weeks to mix this thing so it could be acceptable for any kind of commercial release... It just takes effort/time... a quickie mix will definitely sound like that...

Guitar has a nice tone... guessing a rectifier setting on a POD, or similar... if this is an actual amp, nice job. Biggest difficulty toward a good mix is the busy-ness of the drums, esp. the snare drum vs. guits/vox.

Dunno; not my kind of thing, really. It's loud, but I prefer loud rock music with some type of heavy groove. This is more speed-metal crossed with thrash or something... the "beat" is more like punk than rock. I'd say there are folks out there who'd dig it...

Yeah well actually, I work almost exclusively with this type of music. You guys pointed out that the drums and vocals are too much in the background. As well as the bass guitar... Ehm... Didn't you even come to think that it's actually the GUITARS that are too dominant? *haha* Saying that those three are too weak, it pretty much doesn't leave anything else, does it...

For this recording, I decided to to all acoustic drums, except for the toms. I usually work a lot with trigging, but I decided not to. I will probably use it on the "real" recording later. The vocals are low, yes. I wasn't content with the performance at first, and since it's a promo, I didn't bother that much. However, I've actually come to like when it's a bit more in the back! It kind of fits the sonic landscape, even if it's quite the opposite of the mainstream way of mixing things. For other examples of this, take a listen to Emperor. Even though I think that they take it to the extreme a bit too much...

The guitar amp is an Engl Fireball, played through a Marshall 4x12, close miced with an SM57
