A bit of a weird one here....attempting to put some music to a poem a friend of mine wrote...I kinda dig the backwards guitar effect I was able to get from my podxt on the "solo"....any thoughts mix critiques are welcomed.
Thanks!

Nice tune there.
Very Zappa`ish.

I cant comment to much on the sound as My ears are closed up  , from a heavy cold :( .

The song Idea sounded really cool, nice usage of wierd scales :D I`m a big fan of that..

I`ll comment more when I recover. :o

Anyways I scrolled your webpage, and I`m looking forward to singing on some of the tunes, I`ve got most of my studio setup now, just some wiering left.

I cant wait to do "tie you mother down" :)

Sounds cool. A suggestion:
On the vocals, you might consider turning up the main vox and turning down the echo. The effect if fine, but one could hear the lyrics better if the main vocals were louder.

Ditto.

Also agree that there's a definite Zappa vibe, which from this chair is a big compliment :). Maybe not quite enough odd changes, suspended chords, and dropped beats for zappa, but has that oddity style of in-yo-face geetar.

The guitar lead starts slowly, but I like the overdubbed effect.

Song may be a little longer than it needs to be. I would also add a second rhythm to add a bit of depth/fill to the recording. The single cleaner sounding rhythm just doesn't entirely work for me.

Drums sounded like they meant business at the beginning of the track but eventually fell into keeping a steady but repetative beat. The actual tone of the drums sounded good, especially the toms. Was this a live kit, electronic, or sampled?

Yo man.....agree with David on the vox.....make them a bit dryer. Nice playing...dig the funkiness. Dude...let your voice be heard.....this will meld together just fine. This all fits well, so just let it hang out. Small nit, but that's it. Nice playing, and composition....very fun listen. Nice. rockin tune man.... :D

Nakatira - Hey man, nice to hear from ya! Cool to hear the Zappa comparison as he is a big fav of mine!!While I don't consider my self anywere in the same galaxy as him with my guitar playing..it's nice that the song reminds of his style.Really looking forward to hear the Queen jam with your vox on it!

DavidK - Good idea on the vox...upon hearing it a day later after mixing, I agree that there kinda buried and echoey....gonna address it in my next mix. Thanks for listening!

Pinky - Thanks for the feedback..really coool to hear the Zappa comparison again!I was trying for a kinda psychadelic Floyd kinda thing...especially the guitar solo part were I was kinda trying for the feel of the jam part in the old Floyd song Echoes from Meddele.I think I'm gonna try adding another rhythm guitar track to fill out the song a bit as you suggested.
The drums are loops from the Simon Phillips loop set.

Dogman - I think you have me nailed on vocals :D ...although this is more of a kinda spoken word kinda thing..I mix/record like a guitar player as thats my main thing....you know, guitars up front evreything else right behind :p ...I'm working on getting better though.Gonna bump the vox up on my next mix and will post what I come up eith.As always, I greatly appreciate your feedback/comments!

Nice guitar work. Yeah, reduce the verb and delay on the vox.

Tim

Rocking intro! Can't hear the vox behind the lead guitar, but after that...
The vox sound fine to me, but then again I think we mix the same way, guitar up front...so you probably shouldn't listen to me on vox :o
Sweet sounds all around (I'm listening on a laptop too) Love the guitar work and tones in this one!
on the 3:02 vocal part, you should probably remove the delay when you're not singing alone... sounds a bit cluttered
reminds me of Hawkwind too (yeah Nak, I finally got that, good stuff ;) )
Cool build at the end... maybe lining that riff with some electric harmonies as it build behind the vox would be cool too
Cool stuff man, enjoyed this :D

wow man, thats really good! Im diging the snare sound, i love it!

Timothy Lawler - Noted on the vox...will address it on my remix and post what I come up with..thanks alot for listening !

SnakeDog5050 - Hey Snake..whats up? To bad about our Pistons and Suns hunh?I thought we were gonna be able to talk some smack during the finals :p ..oh well, maybe next year.Seems the overall comment from everybody is the vocals.Hopefully I will be able to improve on my remix.Cool on the HAwkwind comment, I dig them alot!

JoeyPazera - Glad you dug it....I got turned on to those drum loops from Snakedogs jams...they are really fun to work with! Thanks for checking it out!

For some reason I had to download it. Is this a chart ploy??
Aside from all the other suggestions it also reminded me of The Pursuit of Happiness as they do spoken lyrics really well - esp on I'm An Adult Now.
Nice work - Joe's Garage could have used a lift like this.
Cheers

Thanks for the listen....naw, no chart ploy, I just thought that was the best way for people to access the tune...not having to stream it with the soundclick player. Not really into the chart thing to much.

I have heard of The Pursuit Of Happiness, but never listened to any of there work...I will have to seek them out, sounds like something I would like.
Yeah Joes Garage is probaly one of my least fav's by Zappa...too much 50's doo wap vibe for my taste. Over-Nite Sensation is my favorite.
I appreciate the feedback...thanks for checking out the tune!
