right now i have an old fostex vf16, which is great.. but its only 16 bit. i don't mind but i'd like to get some better analog to digital convertors (lightpipe, to be specific) and the vf16 is going to ignore the other 8 bits of data. is there something nice and portable that doesn't cost more than a used car that can do this? adat lightpipe compatable is pretty much a must have.

I too am looking for some sensible, minimally biased (yeah well, I can hope) comparison input on the same kind of gear. I'm a week away from a decision on a 16-24 track self-contained studio in the $900 to $1500 range, have kinda narrowed it down to Korg, Boss and Yamaha. The Yamahaha AW1600 is a newly released version of the AW16G with bells and whistles added (more XLR and balanced inputs, pitch correction, etc.), and is what I'm leaning towards right now. Tascam has a 24 track unit, but it records 24-bit when in 4-track mode only...Is there a site where some research can be done without bruising my po' lil' index finder clicking on links?
