A pair of MSH-1's or MSH-2's?

I have the 1's. They aren't bad at all. I use them as OH's only and they work fine for me.
 
I'm a cardioid type of guy my self. I don't have a great room so I need all the help I can get;)

I can't get the link for the MSH-1k to work but, that's the way I'd go unless you have a nice sounding room.

Do you think I will be upgrading with the msh-1k's if Im using a mix match of 1 AT2020 and a mxl 991 (i think, the LDC one) as drum OH's right now?
 
I have not use the k's my self, just so you know. I would go cardioid though and you check around here for the reputation of MSH mic's

I think you are better with a matched pair for sure or at least two of the same mic. You'll get a better stereo image easier. For instance, if you have something (say a tom) dead center and one mic is brighter than the other the tom would sound like it was more on the side of the brighter microphone (all other things being equal). It will save you time eqing and free up your other mics.

I've used a matched pair of MSH-1Os for both acoustic guitar and overheads and have found them to work quite nicely on both applications.
 
i believe the msh-1's replaced the 1o's; the msh-1k's are at the bottom of the page

I use the MSH1s as overheads.. In a not great room.. Really like them.

Have the MSH 1Ks too, tried them on kick and snare.. no good for these imho and have since bought seperate 24dB pads for them as a way too hot for kick or snare.. Gonna try em on toms for my next project..

iirc i'm pretty sure there used to be a specific msh-1O mic, that was replaced by the msh-1 mic. iirc the current msh-1 mic is close to the original msh-1a mic.
 
I really try to avoid commenting here, but:

The 1K would be like using a Shure PG56 on overheads.

The 2 inherited the 1O's circuit with some improvements, but not its capsule--it uses a 10mm capsule instead. The current 1 is essentially the original 1. The 1A was a transitory version between original 1 and 1O.
 
I don't think the MSH-1k would make a very good overhead mic. Despite the cardioid pattern, the frequency response is not very tailored to overheads. I think it sounds like a condenser version of an SM57, or thereabouts. Might work for some songs, but I would say the MSH-1 omni would be a better choice, even in a crummy sounding room - just more natural.

Well there you have it. From the maker of the mics him self. I tied to look at the specs, but your link won't work for me. I was hoping you'd jump in:)

Thanks a lot for your input everyone, I think Im going to go with a pair of the omnis first, now I just have decide on the 1's or 2's.

I dont really know much about mics, Im a newb, what is going to be the big differences between the MSH-1 and Msh-2?
