a nice preamp for vocals

hi there
ive have been recording for quite a while now. i initially bought my equipment to record mainly drums, but i want to expand now. i am investigating into a new vocal microphone, and also a preamp. the thing is, i dont know what to look for in a preamp. i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on any models of preamps... my budget is probably upto about £400... which might not get me much, again i dont know. if you have no suggestion, then what should i look out for in a good pre? thanks guys

Probably the FMR RNP is your best bet, couple that with an older, not made in China, Rode NT1 and you should get a decent sound.
