sounds like a reality check needs to be administered...but the thought was nice...maybe if you put the mics in the drums and try that???
I've done that, It's workable.

I only had a few $5 radio shack mics so i put them inside the toms and snare to get better isolation bacause all i could hear when they were outside was blindingly loud hi hat.

it can work but i wouldn't do it again if i didn't have to...

wut if u break the mic/sticks?

I'd be more worried about breaking a head. A $6 dynamic mic can take a lot of abuse. :D

it would work better if it was just mixed right into a normally miced drum set.

that is actually a pretty good sound, stupid as it sounds. nice one rock star! i once had my guitar tone one night as my guitar amp being miked by an acoustic amp, and the acoustic amp being miked by the pa at the club. people laughed, but it sounded great

Talk about proximity effect. You don't get much closer to the source as you do when hitting it WITH the mic. Better use omnis

man I actually laughed out loud LOL

, but what are 58's. and i am very proud of liking Len.

I think those 2 statements tell us all we need to know...not counting the bad weed.

Okay here's a sample of me holding two SM58s while playing. You can clearly hear the added weight as my sticks DRAG across the drum heads.

I cheated and put an EV644 shotgun on the bass drum.

Not CD quality, but you get the idea.

Not too bad. Only the higher frequencies turn out to be really directional, so the cymbals do 'swoosh' a bit. Someone would use them for something if you made them.

Send me a bunch of prototypes and I'll rate them/try them for you.

When you start producing them, send me a bunch more.

It sounds like a typical 70's recording. :p

This thread must not be forgotten.

It's just way too good!!!!!

Rock Star, congratulations on a classic post and thread. I think the public here may not be as visionary as you. Indeed, when technology advances I can think of no better place to put a mic than in the sticks. A drummer always carries them with him and, for once, can determine how he will sound.

Well, maybe not a good idea.....

Well done!
