Me, as a person who loves music and after listening to so much music, finally sits back and thinks "what am i doing listening to this stuff, if i love music this much why not try and create my own musical expression!!!!" But I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT MAKING MUSIC AT ALL, truthfully i downloaded sony Acid Pro 7 and thought that there would be many tutorials on how to begin making your own music with it, but ive only found tutorials on how to use sony ACID PRO but i basically just want to learn how to make music, I DONT KNOW A LICK ABOUT IT. Truthfully I am very eager to start and want to learn. so what do i have to learn, anyone who knows alot about this feel free to criticize my noobieness.

Well, you're in the Newbies section, so no one is going to criticize your "noobieness".

The first question that comes to mind is, do you play an instrument? Do you know any music theory at all? If not, then you need to hook up with people who do.

yup...how much do you know so far?
any experience with any instruments?

Got beer?

:D

Forget about software. Buy an instrument.

Check in again when you can play it a bit.

Well truly i dont have any skill in music but i know somebody who plays the keyboard very well its just that i dont know anything about notes or anything i just want to be able to successfully record and produce at least an album and then get it mixed down to my liking and find a record company thatl accept the only thing is idk where to start but to answer your question yes i have somebody who plays i just want to be able to make the music without actually playing it (YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN BY NOW :P)

also ive noticed that a large amount of people have skills in becoming DJ's and techno artists all i want to do is just have some knowledge in basically producing music.

OK, I know this is the newbie section and everything, but come on!!!! Are you serious??? You want to make an ALBUM??? But you know absolutely nothing about music, can't play, don't know an instrument???? But you want to make an album??? You think life is that easy????

I'm sorry, Newbie section or not, this is just plain stupid. And, I might add, it's an insult to those of us who have learned, practiced, learned more, practiced more, and busted our asses in this "business" getting to where we are...which is still nowhere for most of us.

I want to be a pro football player, but I don't know the rules, never played the game, don't own a football, and never stepped on a football field...Oh, and I weigh 98 pounds and I run slow as hell. So, how do I get into the NFL. I'm not asking for much, I just need to know how I can get an agent over to my house so I can sign a pro contract.

If you're younger than 11, then you get a break. If not, I call troll or bullshit on this one.

Some people make music without knowing anything about it. They are often called DJs. If you want to actually make your own music but have no skill at playing, I suggest some kind of MIDI program or a simple sequencer, maybe even as simple as a programmable drum machine, to get you started.

Depending on your budget, a sampler/sequencer and a library of sounds has plenty of wanna-be rappers producing their own beats all the time (and it shows if you actually pay attention to how simplistic and uninspired sounding a lot of their 'music' backgrounds are - I know guys who recorded their first CD rapping along to the preset beats on a department store Casio toy keyboard).

You don't have to play to make music, not with a computer sequencing program. You can just tell it to play a few different sounds, a bunch of notes and point and click where you want them, and at what pitch. Press play and the machine does it for you. You don't even need to know the names of the notes, just be able to hear what pitch is higher or lower than the last one and by how much and pick where you want it. This is why there are so very many out-of-the-box sounding tracks out there with basslines containing a whopping 2 or 3 different notes and a drum beat that can count to 2 (or maybe 4 or even 8 if they get really creative).

You could always get one of those little plastic guitar toys at a toy store that has 4 guitar licks on it that it play when you press a button too. They often come in bright pink and say 'Hannah Montana' on a sticker on them though.

People who can't play sequence poorly. People who can play but want to sequence, usually do a more intricate job at it. If you don't want to learn to play, and don't want to learn at least some rudimentary sequencing skills (like the musicians version of the special olympics in my opinion) well there's always Guitar Hero.

But don't get me wrong. I play a multitude of instruments and drums are my weakest. Nothing I admirer more than a good solid percussionist. ;)

This is Newbies section, no one's going to criticize you. You can't be at the top if you just started. It's a long way to go. My advice, go learn how to play some instruments first. I suggest guitar or piano.

You're worried about record label interest when you have absolutely no aptitude for creating music in any respect? Am I seriously reading this correctly?

First of all, you lied about your inspiration to create music...it wasn't "Oh I love music so much, I should be creating it, not just listening to it", your "inspiration" is trying to make money and that will be your downfall.

Pick up a guitar, sit down at a piano, or blow into a fucking kazoo. There...music made :)

Whew, that's one Loooong sentence. Defintitely have to hook up with a musician, it's called collaboration. If you can write your words and hum out a melody, your friend should be able to write an accompaniment (did I spell that right?) to your melody. You'll share songwriting credit with him.

Yeah Chili, you did spell accompaniment right but you definitely spelled definitely wrong. :D

OK, go buy a keyboard. Forget that it has black keys, only use white. If you want to play chords (more than one note at a time) don't play any that are side by side. So imagine a set of 5 keys numbered 1 to 5, play key 1,3,5.

Then if you go to jam with someone, act all cool and say you want to jam in D Dorian. If they don't like that play in G Mixolydian.

That's all I got for now.

I've wrote two songs using just the black keys. ;)

Lets just make it simple and don't even mention mixolydian or dorian scales.
Just say that your into only the early Brian Eno sound and tell everyone else to try and keep up with ya. :laughings:
