Back to acoustic drums on this tune and a chance to try my Radio Shack Senn-copy drum mics. This is the old Van Morrison tune.

tom, nice work........

the drums sound pretty good.......they might be a touch too 'roomy' for the rest of the mix, but VERY slightly, not a big deal.......also, the kick gets a little lost at times........

great singing.....quite true to the original, putting them side by side, i bet some could hardly tell the difference........good job

Nice job - I like that you didn't bury your vocal with effects this time. Really well done. Man, if I had a dollar for everytime I've played this song, I could probably buy Van's Royalty rights to the tune.

bye

Nice, pretty tight. The drums are miced a bit far for modern recording but it kinda sounds like an old style recording in some ways. I think the vocal is a bit loud and (gulp) a bit out of tune time or at least strains a bit sometimes. Overall good recording, sounds like fun.

Thanks guys for listening.

powderfinger,
I used the largest room in my house to record the drums,a dining room that opens onto the living room.Still a bit "roomy" sounding,I know.Next Time I'll try closer micing the overheads to see if that helps. Its a renthouse so I can't make changes to the walls and such, unfortunately.

Gidge,
You dancin' devil!I was really trying to emulate Van Morrison's "goodtime" feel on the tune, and make some toes start tappin'.

chrisharris,
Yeah, less is more on the effects.Hopefully,I'm getting a bit less ham-handed using effects.I'm no longer in a club band, but this tune was a favorite from those days.

jake-owa,
I hesitate to use autotune because you can hear the artifacts. On the other hand,I'm too lazy to comp the vox.I did about three takes all the way through and picked the best one.
On the drums,I actually close-miced every drum in the kit but the drum sound on this tune is probably 70% overheads (pair of ECM8000s).
