A little mic test for you all....

You just may find out RE....

Since I am on my way back down there Tuesday for at least a week. Another couple of jobs to do. Just emailed Dragon tonight to arrange a hook up (sounds like a drug deal...:) ). I will have my trusty RE-27 n/d and a 4033 with me, so, we can take a look see. Will also be bringing your cables with me.

Okay. The results.

Clips 1 and 3 were the 414. Clip 2 and the female were the 4033, as well as all the other uses we had for it that are listed above.

Also, by popular demand, I am putting the whole song from the second clip up on my website to download.
. Watch out!!! This is a nearly 8MB download due to the fact that I only make 192kbs encoded mp3's available on my site, and the song is kind of long.

Tell you all the truth though, I am not extremely excited about this CD anymore. It was a great learning experience, but there are of course many things I would do much different now. Also, the other producer wanted to do some pretty funking stuff at mix time that I didn't really agree with, but, unless I felt really concerned about it, we went with his ideas because, well, it was mostly his money here....:)

Also, I am not happy at all with the mastering job. It was done at a $70 an hour studio using all the "nice" stuff, Apogee, Crainsong, Manley, ProTools, etc.....I think it is a little too compressed, and a bit 1k heavy. Also, the low mids hog a lot of headroom and masked some really sweet 8-14KHz stuff that was going on in the pre-mastered mixes.

Anyone interested in ordering the CD those songs are on can contact bigsweaty@uswest.net . His name is Chris Stevens, and he co-produced and co-engineered the CD with me. He also plays guitar in the band. A nice guy. I am sure he would be glad to send a CD to whoever wants to buy one. Hell, if you asked nice, you may get two for the price of one just so he can get rid of them being's how the band is no longer together.

Anyway....

Can't Wait

I work 3pm-11pm on wed. and thurs. and 11pm-7am sat. and sun. And I have a little 45 min. gig at a downtown bar on tues. at 9pm. Other than that, anytime is good.

Oh, great! I prefer the cheap mic!

So, the conclusion is:

a) I've got champagne pretensions and root beer ears

b) the AKG isn't worth what it's going for at 8th Street

c) I need a new set of headphones

Pick one. The correct answer will be emailed to you privately.

So, Kelly, you're basically saying that because of a few cheesey lyrics, the whole song(or artist) sucks? Geez, don't you even hear the other 80% of the song? You know - the drums, guitar, horns, bass guitar, etc....???

I'm sure you write all the best lines...

Maybe you're whacked in the head, or just VERY narrow-minded.

You didn't even get the lyrics right. While you're having your head checked, better get your hearing tested, too.

Uh, I think he actually liked the song, Mr B. At least that's what I read in his message. Although you're right about him not getting the lyrics right - unless he was joking, of course, which is possible, since Kelly's got a pretty light touch. Consider the possibility that your criticism or sarcasm is inappropriate because Kelly's message wasn't critical or sarcastic. Possible?

WHOA! Dude! Actually, I LOVED it! (and, yeah, listening to it right after I posted, I realized what the singer was actually saying. I think that whole "coffee, toasting bread" thing had me thinking of breakfast foods, and "fudge apples" was what i turned "in pajamas" into.)

Anyway, I like to listen to interesting (read: non-run-of-the-mill) lyrics, but never really got into funk. When I lived near Dallas (which has a decent funk band or two), we never enjoyed it. Now the backyard is Alabama (and you can imagine how much real funk is played here. slap a bass here and you'll get whacked over the head with it!)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, didn't mean to come over that way. But after riding HomeRec for three or four hours, my eyelids were writing the posts.

I downloaded the song the next day and have played it for various friends (some of which are from this area and gave me the look that proves it :D)

AIR

No not flatulance.

I thought the AKG was the first unit. Yeah!! You can hear more open-ness (more air).

Dobro ....your a funny guy...
Remember the CD. Pre amp shoot out.
If ya wanna hear it you gotta have at least good cans.
It's not Root Beer Ears.
Don't get mad...sorry...gee wiz I feel so awful, :-(........... We should type capital "S" for sarcasm.
Got that Kelly. We musicians are such sensitive beings.
