A little in the red... per Ed

If you have listened to my stuff before, you know that I do mostly instrumental stuff that I am trying to get in to TV/Film music libraries for licensing. In the past, I had specific film ideas in mind (motor sport footage, etc.) This time I had no guidelines, so I don't know what this might be good for. ???
I read somewhere on this website or BBS (by sonusman) that it was okay to venture a bit into the "Red" on meters. So I gave it a try on this one, and I didn't hear any major problems. Thanks Ed!
Anyway, I lost control of my pinky at about :29-:31 and I am sorry about the boring ending -- when I have it mastered/editied, I will fade fast from :57 to 1:06

That was funky... clean.

Yeah, a fade out will be nice when you get to it. The only thing I heard, and it may not be a problem, but there was a slight drop in level of the lead guitar at one point that didn't sound natural to me.

FUNKY... (I can hear it in a movie, yup).

Yeah, that drop out bugs me too. It was worse before I tried to "fix it in the mix" I tried to pull the level up but it brought too much excess string noise. That is the section from about :29 to :32 when my pinky started acting retarded. I will eventually have to re-do that lead, or punch in over that part.

Nice work dude. I dig that. I could hear that drop out you and teddy mentioned, but it still sounded all right. Do you write actual songs, or just short instrumental stuff? Just curious cuz I have wanted to get into film scoring, but have no idea where to start.

Cool orchestrations but I think it could've gone somewhere else and come back in that time frame and your customers will be expecting this. No clipping noted here.
 
Great use of wah!! Ever thought about scoring porno music? :D

I agree with the doc that maybe you could of brought in something a little different, but I think it sounds really good on the whole.

When I downloaded your song into my "Brad" folder I took another listen to "Pooh Spew" - funny shit!! You shouldn't have taken that down from you site!!!

Thanks for bringing up that point Doc, I do need to be more adventurous with stuff. I catch myself getting in "riff ruts" too often. I get worried about time constraints and think that I won't be able to bring it back in time. I need to stop doing that!

P.S. Glad to hear that Pooh Spew is still out there! I only took it down because the guy doing the speaking on it is a school teacher and became paranoid that someone would find out it was him. Wouldn't look too good, a teacher talking about that sort of thing... He also refused to re-record the vocal for another song due to content - that is why I had to drop from the comp CD project. Oh well, I guess I need to grow some balls and do the singing/speaking myself.

Nice funky, Brad...agree with doc and cooperman 'bout a side path and then a return...I don't know why but I could see this song used in a commercial for somebody walking while a camera pans.......then when they see something cool in a shop window the music makes a different move and then returns to the original riff when they start walking again....ok, I'm not Fellini...but you get my point...it's workable.....gibs

I just re-read your post. Oops, I didn't use a wah on this track.
That makes me curious, what part do you think I had a wah effect in there? Was it glitch in my upload process?

gibs, I am glad you chimed in. I have sort of lifted you and drstawl to the appointmentship (if that is a word) of master critiquers (if that is a word) and I appreciate the time you take to D/L EVERYBODY'S STUFF and give feedback. Not trying to leave out others, cuz I know a lot are out there, but you guys seem to comment on everything. I am going to revise this and go in different directions and post an update...
I am grateful for all of the experienced feedback from everybody... it really does help.

Wasn't that wah on the rhythmic muted string guitar bit that's there for the whole piece? If not, I'd like to know what it was!
 
hey Brad, no master critiquer here...I just wanna hear everything I can so I can learn/steal recording techniques from real sounds, or at worst, find out how to avoid recording problems...so really I'm just a selfish bastard....gibs
