Hello, I would like to start with saying that I don't have a lot of experience in the matter of buying classical guitar strings, I've only bought a set once since I purchased my first classical guitar(which is less than a year) and I don't like them, they feel to hard, real hard to bend, and the bass strings sound terrible, does not have that real bassy full sound it had with the stock strings(which I really liked).I paid about ten dollars for them and their D'Addario classical guitar series, silverplated wound, clear nylon, normal tension strings. I would like to know the difference between tensions, silverplated from bronzeplated bass, and clear nylon from rectified nylon. Any information you guys could give me will be real appreciated. I would like to add that I'm new to this forum.

I've used the D'Addario Pro Arte hard tension silverplated wound/clear nylon strings for years and I really like them. I can't say that I noticed a difference over the stock strings, but I've had my classical for over 15 years so there's no way I could remember.

Silver plated/clear are the only kind I've ever used so I don't have anything to contrast them against. So I'm no help there. But I have used both normal and hard tension. The hard tension are a little larger gauge, so they're under more tension when you tune them to pitch. I like them better than normal tension because they sound a little tighter to me, and they are just a smidge louder. Plus I can play them harder without them sounding "plinky" or snapping too much. And I think that the bass strings sound a little heftier.

But if you changed strings and now the guitar sounds bad, that's pretty strange. But remember that nylon strings aren't meant to be bent. They tend to roll under your fingers, unlike steel/nickel strings.

Any idea of what brand/gauge of strings were on there to begin with? Maybe check with the manufacturer and see if you can find out.

I have always used Augustine Blue strings on my classical guitars, feel balanced and always sound good acoustically or plugged in.
