I did a 3 song session yesterday with some local Highscool seniors...I think all 4 of them were 17. Anyway....I worked on this one a little today...just Looking for some comments....

Amplifyed - 10,000 Kingdoms

The vocals could use some retracking and maybe comping just to smooth out the beginning and some of the backups. They're definitely a lot better than our band was at 17

Mix is really good - no problems there, and the playing is great too.

If they cried a lot during the session I think that means they're emo.....

:) :D :) :D

um...the vocals you are hearing here are the re-tracked ones that we did today....they are MUCH better than before....

I agree that the vocals need work...but...this is what we have for now. I have plans to work with the vocal tracks a little more...but no plans to re-re-track them....

thanks for the comments...

Nice sound on the music...vocals are probably good for this type of song...Maybe they could use a bit more verb, or some chorus, as it seems somewhat dry. Course, that might be good for this type of song.
No real nits...except maybe work on the vox a bit more.

Drums sound... fake I guess the word would be.

Snare sounds too poppy. I'd work on the drums and vocals :)

The only thing that doesn't fit for me is the guitar sound. Everything else has a lo fi but passionate garage band feel. the guitars sound like they really want to be a metal band.

It was all I could do to get him to cut his gain that much.....he wanted to CRANK it all the way up...I got him to cut it to just over half way up...

drums are not spaced well at all. Everything sounds center, except for some of the toms. The cymbals sound really bad, u should tell them need better cymbals.
And, the drums are really dry.
Vocals are a little loud too... and sound offcenter?
I think it would be good to turn down the bass, and turn up the guitars; making sure that the drums stay at the level they are; cause they sound really good there.
just my two cents

its definitely EMO!!LOL

how many mics did you use for the drums? The drums sound flat. The guitars works for me, but you might want to consider lowering the vocals, and prehaps a little reverb or chorus for the vocals.

peace

Emo is acoustic guitar and a guy crying out poetry. This isn't emo. I'd say it's post-hardcore. Which is what a lot of people call emo. Mmhm. OH YEAH. Mix is good! The vocals do sound a little to the left, and the drums COULD be a tad wet to go with the guitar sound. But this is good for a bunch of 17 year old's. This is better, btw, than some of the small studios around my area do, so you're good, and those kids are lucky to have your help.

And...I realize I'm only 19 and am just as much a kid as them. Woopsie.

Green Day is what I'd say is the pop-emo grown up into a proper band. :)

Anywho, the band is really good. Plays really well. Growling and howling doesn't go well with the song. Also, the vox are off tune quite a bit. Either sometimes in a different key or sometimes not hitting certain notes. The guitars are a little high for emo.

The bands plays really well and this is mixed pretty well. Don't sweat the guitarist cranking up his amp. Just turn it down in the mix and if he isn't happy, pop in an emo CD and just show him the levels. Otherwise, give them what they really like. Music is not really about fitting into genres. It's more about what the musicians like and enjoy and what the listeners enjoy. :)

Please lets not get into an argument about emo BUT emo = emotionally powered hardcore, so this deffinatly IS!

I know the pain of an 11 guitarist. I've worked with a couple or three.
I guess it'll take a couple of years before he realises it was him & not that band that was wrong for the song.
If people can't agree about EMO then change to ELMO. There's some debate obout what it means currently in Australia. Some are using it to label a sub strand of Death Metal.

my dream death metal band... Elmo on guitar, Bert on bass, Animal on drums and Cookie Monster on vocals =Cannibal Street (me want cookie me want cookie AHHHHGGGGGG!!!)
...oh yeah, I liked the song as well.
