I am just starting out building my first home studio I will be recording mainly reggae and pop my space is limited I have already converted a concrete closet into a vocal booth and experienced singers that have passed through say the sound is nice so I have no concerns in that department. At present I am using an SE 2200a but tomorrow I will be upgrading to a Neumann u87ai a fairly good second mic I feel, I will be buying a Neve 1073lb and a similar price 500 series compressor and eq the problem is I use a i5 8gb macbook pro with logic 9 and I am thinking to purchase an Apogee Duet I am wondering if the Duet is on the same level as the rest of the equipment I am buying or should I aim a little higher I am trying to maintain a certain level.

You should have concerns. I know many "experienced" singers, musicians, etc....that have no idea what actually sounds good. You're going to put a U87 in a closet vocal booth??? That should almost be illegal.

I think it's time to make a sticky about why a vocal booth is the worst place to record, unless that "booth" is the size of a bedroom.
