im kinda startin up my own studio in my room, nothin too fancy

i already bought a M-Audio Fast Track USB and i already have Pro Tools M-Powered 8

All i need is a microphone, stand, pop filter, ect

I had ONE question.
I was readin around and found out that tha Fast Track I have DOES NOT have Phantom Power to power a M-Audio Nova.

Does that mean I would have to buy a pre-amp with Phantom power?

If so, It would be no problem to go buy an M-Audio Audio Buddy if this is tha situation

And how would i hook this all up together to get it workin?

Thanks!

there we go

i hav this model of Fast Tracc

I'll help you.
You could buy an Audio Buddy or some other pre-amp that supplies phantom power. You could also just buy a dedicated phantom power supply. Or you could build your own.

But honestly, at this point I would just recommend that you get a good dynamic mic that doesn't require phantom power. It will be cheaper and you will probably be happier with the overall result.

That helps a whole bunch

would a dynamic mic be good to record vocals?
and im kind of in a budget, not too tight
what yould you recommend?

A dynamic mic is great to record vocals.
"kind of in a budget, not too tight" - that is too vague to really mean anything. And you can learn a whole lot about microphones and prices in the Microphones forum - read the stickies there.
Of course the knee-jerk response is to recommend the classic Shure SM-58, or even one of the clones.
I personally am a huge fan of the Audio Technica MB3000L. It is a discontinued mic, but you can find them used and there is also some NOS to be had if you can find it.
There are literally a million decent dynamic mics that will get you started, in a very affordable range.

i got about $150 to spend on a mic & phantom powered amp.

i REALLY dont want a dynamic 1, im really lookin into buyin the M-Audio Nova

For starting out, the SM-58, as suggested by brother rat, would probably be your best "starter" solution. I have an M-Audio Nova and it's a nice mic, but unless you want to upgrade your interface you would probably be better off with a dynamic mic.
