hi guys

I saw something pretty ridiculous this week: a guy tried to record a classical orchestra wit a head of a dummy on a mic stand, with two piezos on the head. The jacks were at the bottom of the head so it seems that people take this system seriously.

Has anybody seen this kinda thing before? Maybe I'm prejudice because I really hated the guy who did the recording (an old man who was really not friendly and gave a very arrogant impression) or is this a bit over the top?

that's called binaural recording ... makes for killer listening on headphones

It's been used for nature recording a lot as well. Produces amazingly realistic stereo results!

Of course it adds one level of difficulty...now you not only have to choose your mics, but your head ;)

They wouldn't be piezo elements... they'd most likely be small high quality electret capsules implanted in the side of the dummy head.

A number of companies produce binuaral dummy heads.

A well made binuaral recording played back through a good set of headphones can give you the impression of being 'right there'.

who was the gentleman on here who used to post up his binaural recordings where he'd walk around with mic capsules in his ears? those were great.
