During my last couple of projects, i noticed how much i really need to get some bass traps up in the studio. I do not have alot of money to spend but i heard of a very cheap and effective bass trap you can make with a rubber garbage can. however, i think those would look a little silly in the professional studio (however effective). i figured out that i could build about 4 of them for around $100, which i could put in most corners of my room. But, is there any other very effective and low cost bass traps i can use that might look a little more "professional". also, how much absorbtion should i use? right now ive got 3, 4 by 6 foot movable panels with 2" thick studio foam on them. These have been very convenient and low cost. I new that i didnt want to have the sound totally dead so i decided i wouldnt need a forth panel, but is 3 pannels even over doing it? The walls of the studio are painted concrete bricks. Like i said i definately feel the need for some more bass control now that ive sucked out so much high's. I was thinking the garbage cans might actually be very well worth it for their portability also, this way i can move them right along with my other pannels.
Now i have another thing i would like to talk about. I thought of a great use (well maybe great) with a dark room revolving door chamber. I will try and get a picture of it up later but i dont have my digital camera up. But i can try and describe what it is. The circum. is 4.71 ft. the radius then 1.5 feet. and it is 7 feet high. It is plastic and it has weels on it (yeah, more mobility). Now, my ideas were either using this as an reverb chamber, or putting some foam in there and making it a vocal booth. The problem with the vocal booth is im not sure if the size is good for a vocal booth, thats where i want your input. Also if you could think of any other ideas i would love it. who knows, maybe i should use the same as the rubber garbage can bass trap and make it a huge one? anyway. let me know what you think.
