My first question on the tm d1000 is why is it so cheap is it a bad mixer. is it easy to conect to adat do i need to buy any extra parts for the conection. and are there any other draw backs.
Thanks

I would like to add to the question. Can you use the mixer for computer recording without special cables?

I heard from a manager at GC that Tascam decided to stop makin' 'em and told their retailers to blow 'em out.Yes you need an interface to use it with an ADAT,don't remember what it's called.Don't know about hooking it up to a PC,except of course you can always use S/PDIF but that's only 2 channels.

I used a tmd1000 for a while so I can probably answer a few questions.

First of all, the tmd 1000 is not a bad mixer at all. It takes a little getting used to, but so does everything digital IMHO :) I don't really know why it is so cheap, other then the fact they they did stop making them at one point, but as far as I know they resumed production.

To connect to an ADAT you will need a converter made by tascam that hooks the the mixer's TDIF connector to the ADAT's lightpipe. I think it is called an IF-TAD. I have seen them at a few websites.

As for drawbacks, I can't personally think of any, although I only used my tascam with a computer.

You can use it with a computer without any special cables if you use the analog outs to your soundcards analog ins.
If you have a SPDIF input on your soundcard you can use it, although either of these ways will only let you record two tracks at a time. The ideal way to use it would be to get a TDIF equipped soundcard. I used a Mixtreme, but there are a few others. Using the TDIF connector you can record eight track and playback eight tracks at the same time, using the tascam's AD/DA converters(which are good;).

Any one interested should check out the DIGITAL MIXER section of the tascam BB http://www.tascambbs.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

there are tascam employees and other user's that will answer your questions.
