I have had my head buried in this song for so long now that I've lost all perspective. I should probably just let people listen and give their opinions without me influencing what to listen for. But there are a few specifc things I'm not sure about:

1) Is it too mid-y, or are there enough low's and high's.
2) Does the snare sound too compressed. I think I might have compressed too much during tracking, so it seems dead to me even if I put no compression on it during mixdown.
3) Are the guitars fat enough. I'm not a guitar player (I'm a drummer primarilly), so I know my tone isn't going to blow anyone away. I just don't want it to be embarressingly bad.

Anything else that stands out, let me know. I might have to re-do the song in a different key because I know my voice sounds crap in that range.

Thanx. It's called THE REAL YOU

EQ balance sounds good to me. As usual with your tunes, intonation is excellent and it's rhythmically tight. I think the vocal range suits you. Gtrs sound good but could be a little ballsier without being overbearing IMO. Bass could be just a little hotter perhaps. Only thing that's lacking IMO is "liveness" - transient detail. Could be the mic's used or compression used, dunno.

This does seem to lack any real "sparkle" on the top end, but that's a minor complaint. The bass seems present and defined, but not overbearing.

Since you mentioned it, it could use a little more crack, but I like the mellow tone just fine.

They sound fine to me.

I can't really comment on recording aspect. The song sounds good to me.
I went on to listen to your other stuff. Wow. I am impressed. Very good.

I thought the same thing. He's modest to the extent where one might read his post and think he'd likely sound mediocre... then you listen to his music and it's performed with great skill and feel. A nice surprise.

Well, thanx alot you guys. I wasn't looking for, or expecting such nice words about my music. I guess being a drummer, there is an inferiority complex when it comes to playing melodic instruments, and especially singing, which I know is my weakest link. I've been lucky enough to hang around with good musicians and learn from them over the years, but certainly don't consider myself an expert at anything, and the recording and mixing process still depresses the hell out of me.

As far as this song, 2 reasons why I thought I lost all perspecive on it. One is that I spent so much time re-mixing it that now I don't know what's real and what's my imagination. One take I find the drums too loud. Next take, I can't even hear them, and I didn't even change anything. Plus, I made the age-old mistake of mixing down immediately after finishing the last track. I think I'll let it sit for a few days without listening to it and see how it sounds Sunday morning. :)
Thanx again.

Put very well. God knows I can relate.

I hear nothing wrong with this RAMI. Very good performance, and you captured it well. It could probably use more low end, but doesn't make or break the song. Just something to try, if you wish. If you left it, no problem. Being a guitarist, I'd love more guitars, but that may spoil the song. Again, no problem either way with them.

Guess what I'm saying is, NICE. I tried to be critical, but it blows my shit away, so good job.

LOL...This makes me laugh, because I told someone once, that the change they made, didn't compliment the song. And they Pm'd me that they didn't make a change!!! :D :D :D

Hehe...Yeah, sometimes you could swear something's changed, but it just be what you ate.

Dogman, I often hear you say that someone else's stuff blows your away. I think you're one of the first people who's music I listened to and commented on when I got here a few weeks ago. Don't sell yourself short, you make great music, my friend.

Well thanks RAMI. The compliment is much appreciated. I will say, I make noise....

Just listen to
to hear that. I get chills every time I hear it, and it's on my cycled jukebox player so I hear it every day.

Yep, DOG is one of my favs around here, and Tim of course! :D

How long have you been playing RAMI? You sound very very seasoned. Gwad, it sounds like I'm gona cook em!!!

You don't have to cook me, you can eat me raw...oops...not what I meant...I'll just shut up.

I've been playing drums for about 25 years, though during some of those teenage years I probably spent more time NOT playing drums. But I did start playing 25 years ago. The other stuff (guitar, bass, some keys, mediocre vocals) I picked up along the way just learning from other musicians. I really woldn't call myself anything other than a drummer. It's the only thing I've ever played in a band or on stage.
Like groupies, drummers have been known to hang around with musicians, too.

Tim, one word for ya...Thank you...ok that was 2 but thanks wasn't appropriate. I don't know what else to say....Just thanks.

I'd comment more on your stuff, but it is not in the same catagory as mine. Just the sound quality is amazing, and the playing.....Well, I'll tell you what my wife asked me the other day. She wanted to know what it takes to even be able to think moving your fingers to play those notes. I just told her a different mind. It has to feel the notes, not just think them. If you just play the notes, it would be mechanical. It reminds me of the M.A.S.H. episode where Charles takes under his wing the soldier who was a Pianist before the war, and is hurt, and can only play left handed. He mentions this.

Anyway, rambling, drinking, and enjoying life. Thanks again.

I really like this song. I think the levels work really well together -and your years playing drums have paid off big time because your phrasing with vocals is just about perfect. I'd have the lead vocal a little drier and ...OOHH nice fill at 3:07.

Great stuff, man.

And not to steal RAMI's thread, but thanks True. Glad you can enjoy such diverse stuff. I don't have many friends that get music for what it is, but the ones who do, are awesome. In my house, there are no genres. Just music. Listen to my stereo some time. It is odd for the casual listener, but fun to say, "Oh, that's just some stuff from a homerecorder like me. " Most people are blown away by the stuff I have found on here.

And RAMI, give me some drums.......and I would just break them. I don't think I could figure out how to make any real sound on em, so you being multi-instrumentl, and playing everything, that's cool. Really cool.

I don't know, I would call you a damn good musician, who can do it all. Drums may well be your nitch, but you have mastered the others well enough, that I couldn't tell a *drummer* was playing them!!
What is that? About you being JUST a drummer. I would love to see how well a band would do without their drummer. Like one , maybe two songs??? I did not consider your vocals mediocre. On some songs your vocals were stronger on than others, but name me ANY vocalist who isn't the same. You can't. Anyway, Keep hangin with the other musicians, or we are in a lot of trouble. :D I wish I could change the way things go for those who are actually talented. But I am a mere woman, and everyone knows...gurls can't rock!! :D Cool sounds RAMI!!!

And as far as the cooking/raw thing goes...I guess I will just shut up too, or I could get into trouble here.

Once again, thanx True, Dog, Tim...!!!
Supercreep, I appreciate your comments especially considering I just went and listened to "What you were meant to be" and got blown away by everything about that tune.
