I was asked by an associate if I could set up a simple, basic website for an organization and then work as the webmaster.

This might be a good opportunity for me in two ways. Obviously, I would get a few bucks for setting it up and a few more for being the webmaster.

As well, I will be able to channel some of my music their way, as they do a few public events throughout the year . . .

I am, therefore, thinking of taking on this little side hussle, but . . . .

how much do webmasters make? (in general -- I am sure the range can be great but what is the basic, generic floor price/wage?
 
My base price for a website (just the design) is $600 for a basic set of static pages, simple navigation graphics and a logo or two. I usually do smaller companies, non-profit stuff. Adding features (especially dynamic) ups the price. For example, I have a customized schedule/events/calendar feature with a neat form to add/delete/modify events which are then displayed on the site. I charge $200 to add this feature.

As for "webmastering", I charge a $150 a year administration/setup fee for setting up a website (register the domain, signup for the hosting) in addition to what my 3rd party hosting site charges (~$120 a year). Ongoing maintenance costs are all on a customized basis depending on your needs.

If you already have hosting then you just pay for my web design (assuming the hosting supports my requirements, ie PHP, MySQL if needed, etc...)

My design/technology firm (http://www.silgorsolutions.com) is undergoing a re-structuring with me taking the Web design company to Gordon Media (see http://www.gordon-media.net) and my partner taking the consulting/network/office support side. I'm also going to add my recording/studio/audio services to my list of services I provide.

As for a salaried/permanent webmaster of a "real" company, I have no idea. My day job is Software development/engineering so I'm not too up to date with what the web/sys admin type folks would be getting (it would of course vary greatly by region though)
 
thanks for the info . . . i will begin using this as a starter's conversation . . . n see what they say . . .

actually i stopped learning (i was taking intro classes) before i got to "flash" so really i have no clue as to how to set that up -- i hiope they dont want it . . . ill tell em it costs more !! lol
