Alrighty. I got my instrumental in track1. And I'm getting ready to record a verse in track2, but as soon as I say something in the mic, theres a one split second delay before I actually hear the sound.. anybody have any antidote for this?

This is likely to do with something called latency. This is where the mic signal is delayed for abit before its put in. The cure is to reduce the latency time to zero. However im not sure how to do this on cool edit as ive never needed to. But if you search for latency in the cool edit help thing it shud tell u.

Definitely a latency problem. Do you have an onboard soundcard, or are you using a different one?

There is a latency adjustment which delays playback to match your new input in later versions of CEP and in Adobe Audition: under Options/Device Settings/Wave In (or Out: I'm not at my recording computer and I set it months ago and forgot about it) there is a "latency" field you can enter a value into. The way you derive the value is to record something with a sharp attack (I used handclaps from a drum machine) onto Track One, then bounce it back through your sound card onto Track Two. You will see the difference in time in how the waveforms line up. The ruler along the bottom will allow you to figure the time in milliseconds, which you can then enter into the latency field.
