a DAW with library?

I use SONAR LE right now and more often than not record myself doing voiceover or singing. Sonar is quite convenient to use but I often end up doing 30-50 takes of something and then have it all scattered around in various tracks.

I record something, go to the keyboard, move it manually to a place on another track where it won't be getting in the way, press record and return to the mic. And then I absolutely can't find the one take from half an hour ago that I remember was nice.

Is there a way to simplify this? Is there a DAW with a Library panel where I could move unused clips? My ideal workflow would be as follows:

I record something, press a button on the keyboard (or even better a DAW controller), listen to the clip and with another button I move to the library. I press record again, record, etc. Much faster and more effective.

So in the end instead of 6 tracks cluttered with a myriad of random takes I have the initial 'background' tracks untouched and a library full of recorded clips (ideally sorted into categories).

Cubase has an audio pool. It's pretty useful for that kind of thing.

Logic has "audio bin" which rules if you accidentally delete something, you can just drag back the original. But...you need a mac.

Sonar LE will do that just fine. If you go to global options, you can set each project to have its own audio folder. Now, every track will save in that folder. If you click on the exporer button or set it as a tab, you have a windows type explorer like "my documents" in a tabbed window that you can now just drag and drop all your clips into.

If you're referring to the "Loop explorer window", which is the only one which has anything to do with 'explorer' then dragging clips there does nothing. Unfortunately...

Yeah, that it, loop explorer. It is fully drag and drop functional. Just tried it. WAV, MP3, acidized loops and midi clips as well

Why don't you just label each take?
Sometimes the most effective solution is the one that just seems too simple to contemplate. There's sometimes something to be said for the old school. :D

True Grim !!!! I see some younger guys searching and searching, playing every take till they say "I think this is the one".
Just makes sense to me to just label each take with what ever method one would choose.
