Leave it to me to cover a song no one's probably ever heard.
Anyway, it's by John Foxx, former lead singer for Ultravox.
His version is all synth. Mine features acoustic guitar.
I recorded it 2 yrs ago, the mix is ok, not great.

never heard the original.....

so why did you record the drums through a window from the apartment across the street??:D
the guitar sounds cool...a couple of "on key-less" problems on the vocals ....but maybe thats what its SUPPOSED to sound like...like on all my stuff...its SUPPOSED to be so full of effects that you can barely tell its actual instruments....

yeah i just woke up.
jamal;)

I was trying to get a 'live in concert' sound.
It was done 2 yrs ago, when I first started using CEP.
I should remix it.

You know, I'd really like to hear this without the excessive reverb. It sounds like a cool Cure-ish kinda groove, but it also sounds (as dobro said) like it's about 20 feet away. I say, forget the "in concert" thing. This song definitely demands a liberal dose of ambience (reverb, delay, etc.) but this just goes a bit far.

I hope you'll post a remix, because the performance sounds cool.

the drums are way too low/weak..and vocals sound REAL DISTANT..i don't know shit about this type of music but the singer IMO sounds terrible..

hey Teach, the singer(me) IS terrible!

Anyway, I'm gonna remix it. I didn't actually use reverb.
It's a particular CEP multi-tap delay preset that I fell in love with.

The effects (which I thought was reverb) sound fine to me. I think very heavy is appropriate. I saw Blue Oyster Cult play in an almost empty arena and this reminded me of that sound which was very cool. The "accordian" sound at about 2:30 doesn't quite fall back into the rest of the soundscape. Could use some more of whatever effects you put on the rest of it.

Vocals sound fine too. Sure, not good in a conventional way, but good for the tune. Maybe some vocal counterpoint would add to the song.

Only thing that bugs me is the snare could be more centered.

I feel like I've heard the original...can't pinpoint it though. What year is it from?

Thanks fprod. Whadaya know - someone 'gets' it :)

The original is from 1980 and has a sound very similar to Gary Numan.

but it also sounds (as dobro said) like it's about 20 feet away

I thought Jamal said that. Is Jamal and Dobro the same person?

Well I listened and liked. No new addendum's here, still groggy from my Mexican food supper.
