hey all
Recently purchased an R8 on eBay ($100...booyah!) and I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet, since I only just got my hands on a mixing board yesterday, and I haven't gotten any new tape yet. So what type of tape is recommended for the R8, what are the bias settings and how do I go about adjusting them, and what is this tape thickness sensing thing I read about in another thread? Someone else posted about a tape stopping right in the middle of a reel and a reply said something about a setup menu or something....???? Also, does anyone know of any good sources of inexpensive tape (ie once-used, overstock, etc.)?
Also, the person who had the recorder up for auction mentioned an apparent problem with the tape shifting position over the heads while playing, or something along those lines (which probably accounts for the low closing price). I haven't seen anything amiss physically, so does anyone have any suggestions for what I should look out for?
