Here's a bit from the show we had Tuesday night. I played the piano and the singer is a girl named Maya. We recorded the show on to two Minidisk recorders. One got a feed from the FOH mixer, and the other one was a two mic setup that captured the room. The final versions I'm producing are mostly the FOH, with a little of the room mics for ambience, especially where the applause kick in.
It's a Barenaked Ladies cover named Break Your Heart.

man...I loved the reverb, listening on headphones. Nice live recording....especially the talking at the beginning, in which this illiterate American, couldn't understand a friggin word, 'cept for the obvious. Very beautiful voice (even if she is multilingual:D )
nice pno there too!

Somehow I knew you'd be the first to reply ;)
I can't take credit for the reverb. It's what the FOH guy used (I have no idea what he had. For once I tried to focus on playing as apposed to sound). The bit in the beginning is something like "I invite Oren to join me on the piano... This is a number by a band no one had ever heared of in Israel... etc." (As far as we know, we are the only two people in Israel who know the Barenaked Ladies, and we only know each other for two weeks) :)
Glad you liked the piano.

the reverb I meant was just the REAL thing...the hall you played in. It sounded great....just like the 'real deal'...cause it was!!!

Yeah... It's a nice little hall. High ceilings, fits about 150 people. The place was packed, so on the room mics recording you can here lot's of talking, laughing, etc. That's why I only added a little bit of it, and basically treated it as an effect return.
I got a few more songs ready. I'll upload them later today.

Mate!

she sounded georgeous, tell her ok!

good show old chap, must dash.......

Erland - Thanks mate. I don't think I'll be telling her anything anytime soon. She was a pain to work with, and a dissapointment as a human being. She does sound (and look...) great though. ;)

Just finished mixing the whole album. It was a joint show, meaning there were 9 different singers, and each of them brought their own musicians, so we were 30 people all together. I played in 3 songs, with three different singers. Tis one, Maya, was clearly the best. I also played "When I Go", which you heared, with a female singer who was bloody awfull, and "Born of Frustration" by James, with an army mate of mine (who got me in this show in the first place. He also sung in the version of When I Go that's on my Nowhereradio page). Really fun song, I may upload it later today.

Don't study too hard!

The Piano playing was Grand. (No pun intended). I think the PNO really made up for the slight lack in the singers maturity. By that I mean that though she has a good strong voice with a lot of quality, I think she's a little inexprienced. But time will take care of that. Anyway. Very good performance.

About the only thing I can add to this is that the singer should back off the mic a tad and project a little bit more. Other than that (and she realy was quite good overall) it was a wonderful listening experience. I think I'll play it for my girlfriend and hope she gets the urge to try to record it herself. ;)

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Though I've been playing piano for quite a few years now, I'm still amazed when people tell me that they like my playing. By the way, it was a Yamaha electric of some sort, not a grand :) .
I wonder - how exactly did you notice her immaturity? I mean, I couldn't agree with yuo more, but how on earth did you notice that?

Bri - Thanks mate, good luck with getting your girlfriend to sing ;)
I agree with you about her micing technique, but she was really in a "Just do your job and shut up. Just make sure nobody notice your playing" kinda mood that day, so nobody could tell her anything...

Well,It's good to know there is music still being played in the midst of all the violence there.

rbw87 - Music is mainly what keeps me going through all that shit.

Immaturity

Nothing amazing about my deduction Aren. I was just paying attention to her delivery and noticed that she didn't quite nail it.
But realizing the strength and tonal quality of her voice I know that it won't be long before she gets it together.
I had the same problem in my early days. Took me awhile though because I never had a very strong set of pipes.
