Resident Lolly
So I'm knee deep in trying to finish the mix on a project that's taken me a lot longer to complete than I had hoped. Everything was/is being recorded on the cheap. Budget mics, mixer, pre-amps, etc.

I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, or at least I think that's a light. :-) Anyway, I thought I'd solicit some feedback from you guys and see if you had any suggestions as far as the mix goes. Here's a link to the download for a single track from our forthcoming album. I'm applying the same general approach to all of the album's tracks. If you have suggestions as to what could be improved, I'm all ears...

Thanks guys!

I liked the lead singer's voice. Very commercial sounding. Good backing vocals.

You need a better snare sample. This one is very slappy. Barely sounds like a snare.

I'd push the vocals up a couple of db's.

Guitars are missing some presence. They don't have enough hi-mid sizzle, IMO.

Too much reverb on the lead guitar, again IMO.

Bass might be a bit soft in the mix.

I agree with almost everything he said. You can try EQing the snare, but that might not help. I think the vocals can be compressed more. And some of the harmonies sounded out of tune. Pretty good song.

Thanks to you both for the feedback. I read TripleM's reply earlier in the day and now all I can hear is that stupid snare. :-)

I'm learning as I go and this is a big help. You both pointed out some good stuff.

Harmonies, bass, guitars, drums...I'll adjust them all. Thanks a lot, guys!

Surely this is Billy Corgan singing? lovely song & vocals.

the only thing letting this down is the snare(s). They are too sharp, too aggressive for the song. Take them right back and I think you have a great song, well recorded. (is it Billy!)

other then the snare (which isn't terribly bad) the song is quite well. The trems in the second verse fit well. All in all its a good song ..........Im sure that corgan in there too ;)

I can assure you that's not Corgan. :-) I'm glad you guys like the song though. That means a lot to me.

But now I'm thinking the snare is a problem in all of my mixes. *sigh* Eh well. I guess I've got some work to do. :-P

Thanks again!
