a Basic question worth asking and learning (with a tascam porta 02)

Hi, this is probably real easy to fix, please help me!

so i record something on track 1, next, i want to record track 2.

so, i want to be able to listen to track 1 in my headphones, and play over the top to track 2...right?

how come when i'm recording track 2, with track 1 in my headphones, whenever i play, i can't play along to track 1, because any sound i make just blocks out the sound in the headphones..

i hope this makes sense, i really need some help.

check your levels maybe. i'm not familiar with your recorder, but if each channel has a gain pot on it then maybe your gain is just way to high on channel two. i think that makes sense. i'm new i could be wrong, but i love the feeling i get if i'm actually right. guess we'll wait to see what the pros write. also if you have both your pan knobs on each channel the same then you might have phase problems but i doubt it. fuck it try and fiddle with your pan knobs and see if that gives you some seperation.
