hungovermorning

Dr. Caveman.
So I'm in a couple bands and have a couple different set ups of amps (a Mesa f-100 2x12 and a 72 Sound City Concord 2x12). Each have their own qualities, the Mesa is very American sounding the Sound City is the perfect little British amp. Anyways, at one practice for fun I hooked both of them up at the same time through this old Danelectro Coolcat chorus pedal I have with stereo outs. Holee cow... So with all this needless background info, can anyone reccomend an A/B switcher to allow me to split the signal to the amps? Something that won't degrade the signal terribly. Thanks in advance.

I built my own A/B pedal. There are schematics online. There are some other companies out there that make them. If you have any pedals that you don't use you could use them in a way....not for A/B, but for A, then A+B. I used to do that with a Blues Jr. and a Super Reverb. The Super was on all the time and then I would only turn on the BJ when I wanted distortion. Then I had a nice clean to fill out the distortion. Did that by taking any pedal you don't need to use and turning all the knobs off so when its engauged, there is no sound coming out. Turn it off and you get your signal.

But for a real A/B, musicians friend sells a couple. There isn't much special about any of them. Imo most stuff is BS and I wouldn't buy one of those $250 A/B boxes if my life depended on it.

I guess, I really need an A+B only because I want both of the amps running at the same time. It would be ideal if it didn't require a battery to run.

So you want and A/B/Y? A or B or Both?

There's a schematic on the Jensen transformers page for one that's transformer isolated to avoid ground loop problems. The parts, aside from the $70 Jensen transformer, shouldn't cost you much at all. Add one SPDT switch to make it an A/B box. Add another to make it an A/B/Y. Do it DIY.

Yup. But I would be quite happy with just one that is constantly both at the same time. Adam, thanks for the suggestion but I'm so bad with projects I'd rather buy.

Also check with cinemag for a comparable transformer at a lower price if you decide to go the diy route.

Oh. Thats not an A/B pedal. You just need a 1/4" mono Y splitter. Go to radio shack. $2-3.

But...if you would rather buy something even more useful in the future.....eBay this.....

I don't know if any are for sale right now, but that is a nice little toy to have around. 4 amps at once. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have mine and won't ever sell it. They discontinued them a long time ago.

woo!

Outlaw, thanks a whole lot, that's what I'm looking for! Green chicklet for you!

cheers,

I cant read schematics, is there some website that could teach me the basics of figuring out what its saying? Or maybe a website that just has a step by step procedure on building an aby switch

yeah, well...

For the love of Jeremy, whateevr you do, don't buy one of those cheap Berhinger A/B pedals..... It more of an A + Hiss / B + Hiss pedal... I'm completely dissatified with mine....
