Rokket

Trailing Behind Again
Inspired by gibsonguy09, I decided that I would post the lyrics to one of the first songs I ever wrote. It's been lying around and I've never put music to it (I have a melody in my head, but I've never figured out how to put it to music). Anyway, this is where my head was at 23 years ago:

RENEGADE

Standing in the shadows, you're on the make
Not looking for trouble or a chance to take
Oh, they say it's hard to live the way you do
Always the rebel, it's always different for you

So you're wrong
When it all comes down, you're the renegade
You don't belong
You're against the grain, you're the renegade

Branded an outlaw, you committed no crime
You didn't break their laws, you won't serve their time
But you're running away, and even though it's not right
You won't stand your ground and they can't make you fight

So you're wrong
When it all comes down, you're the renegade
You don't belong
You're against the grain, you're the renegade
There will always be a price to pay

I don't know why I held on to this for so long. The only change I ever made to it was the last line the second time you sing the chorus, as it leads to a guitar solo. This change was done about a year after it was written. So what do you think? This came from the mind of a 15-year-old in the early 80's....

Here is the first verse from a song I wrote....Obvious which era it came from?

Mystery of Pluto
Nine fires bright
Boiling inner nature
Comes out cool as ice

And here is another...one verse and a chorus.....

Your touch is the dawn in the makin'
The blue, the blue, your eyes are heaven
The night is still night slowly falling
The dark, the dark, your arms reach out

And yesterday can't warm me
Yesterday isn't here
But tomarrows illusion can heal......

This second one I had my first studio experience with.Recording it and two other of my songs...I was so excited..and amazed at the difference in sound quality(had been basement recording) I couldn't believe it was me singing and playing the piano! The studio was in an underground cave...In fact , if I remember right..It Was called 'Underground Sound'..we just called it THE CAVE... ...A friend had purchased studio time for a demo tape..and gave me any leftover time...enough for 3 songs...I think my copy has deteriorated ...I don't have a Reel to Reel anymore to find out..The cost was like 75 an hr....It was a blast....!!!!

I don't know if my thoughts have really changed that much....but the music has taken a few twist and turns...other wise ....I would grow stagnate with the same ol...same ol.....see what you started Eddie..Now I'm diggin in old shoeboxes and and geetar cases...... :D :)

Well, you may find some loose change!

The only time I was in a studio it was as an observer. I got to go into the Echo Chamber in Pasedena in the '80's. It was a Mastering house mostly, but they had 4 or 5 live rooms and a few other cool things. The ME was mixing down Dokken's album, but I wasn't allowed anywhere near it. I did get to meet George Lynch though, so that was cool.

Me and a friend used to sit near bus stops and in laundrymats playing our guitars while he sang. People would wander past us and drop change in our guitar cases. One night we made almost $300.00 and didn't even notice that people were doing that. It was after that that we made conscious effort to play in public. We never did make that much in a single night again, but we still had fun. I learned a lot about acoustic playing that way.

Ooops, my head isn't in the game! I got stuck on that pulling stuff out of the guitar case thing and I had a flashback of what I told you about.

No, the lyrics are good. A tad bit lacking in visuals, but not bad. They lend themselves to poetry quite well. I have to rewrite 99% of what I do, and I am sure that your stuff goes through many different stages too.

Most of my changes happen when I start committing it to music. If I write an instrumental piece first, then it's a bit easier to do, but if I write the lyrics first, then things change quite a bit..
