Taking the slow road
sold out so i couldn't get it at one gc, maybe i'll try another...

there's 2 sdc and what looks like an ldc.

i could use 2 sdc's to keep permanently up for my kit and the 2 that i like for my acoustic in an x/y also setup for quick recordings for ideas and stuff. i'd like to keep my 2 991's up for acoustic.

if i can get another half assed/half decent ldc, i won't complain....but were talking cheap here.

I tried both of my local GC's and niether one had them in stock, nor did they have any plans to replenish their inventory, they gave me some bullshit about the item being a 'close out' so once theyre gone thats it, they both said they have been out of stock for some time, this was the same day I received the mail out. There aughta be some kinda law against that crap. I would have gotten them if they had them. The sdc's are supposed to be decent and ldc had an omni switch that I coulda used.

I have it, I originally bought it when it still cost $200 something or whatever it was, I got a deal so it was $170, then one of the caps broke so they sent it back and when I got the new one they gave me a $70 refund since the price went down.

I haven't used the GXL 1200's yet, but I've used the GXL 3000 (the large diaphragm) and it's pretty good. The few recordings I did with it, it sounded a little bit dull, but I had a terrible pop filter and didn't do much post production cause it was a rushed demo, but from the effort I put in, I was pretty pleased with it. Most people I've talked to who have used it have liked it a lot, saying it's the best ld mic in the $200 area and under.

The gxl1200s are decent mics, worth the price. I haven't had first hand on the 3000 though... Always seemed the 3000 was expensive at around 150 bucks (considering the m179 at 200) but in this package it's probably worth it...

GXL 1200s are pretty mediocre. I owned a pair, they're ok, the nice thing about them is that they are so cheap because those overhead mics are in danger of being broken more than most (at least in my experience), they're about on the level of an MXL 603s. For $100 though, you really can't go wrong. You might really like them on something.
