After 2 1/2 years of continual use, my Fostex 8051 footswitch appears not to be working all of a sudden.

Any thoughts as to what I should check?

Also, I realise it's an unlatched switch. Any other criteria I need to consider in buying another one? I can't find anyone who has a new 8051. Any known brands/models people use?

Heh, the only thing I could find on the damn thing on the Fostex website was this blurb:
"An unlatched type footswitch employing a heavy-duty TACT switch. It provides convenient, reliable operation for punch in/out or play/locate functions of Fostex recorders."

There is no other documentation.
But there is a thread on here where some folks have tried different pedals and found them to work. Do a search for it.

I have a yamaha keyboard pedal that I hooked up once and got it to do a punch in... It's unlatched, and I think it's "normally open".

Hosa makes a FSC501 pedal. Matt Suzuki at Fostex recomened this one to me. Runs about 12 bucks.

Bill - I think you've already discovered the Boss FS5U.
A similar pedal is made by Bespeco (Italy)

The one to get is the one which they call a sustain pedal, either with or without cable.
The general description for the right footswitch is momentary (unlatched) normally open.

Yeah, I got the Boss one, but the thing is, the Fostex one I have is probably just fine, but it's come out of adjustment. I opened it up. The microswitch still works fine, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to align the components to push the switch when stepped on. I was probably stepping too hard over the last two years and pushed things out of alignment. But still, there's not much inside.

Anyone else ever look inside their 8051 who can tell me what it should look like. I'm sure mine would work again if set up properly.

so can someone make a list of pedals to buy? i really want one and cant find the fostex one anywhere.

The Fostex one has been discontinued. I'd just get the Boss FS5U. It has a polarity switch you'll have to set properly. If it's not, then when you turn on the machine, you'll sonn get an error message. No worries. Turn off the machine. Change the polarity and restart. Simple.
