i think ive finally got cubase running ok ...(no dx plugins though!) and i really want to test it ... Is there a way to record 8 tracks at once ?? under options i go to multirecord , i check active and that opens up a record column in the arrange window ... Yet it will only allow me t0 check two at a time .. My soundcard is the guilemot ISIS card .. i know it definetly supports it cos it does this fine with logic audio ... any ideas on this anyone?? thanks all....
hey sorry if im thrashing this cubase forum , just discovering it so as usual i want to know everything about it yesterday .... heehee .... cheers all..

Ok, So you got multirecord enabled.

Under System/Input

Turn all those on so they are green.

Under System/Monitor

This will bring up the mixer view. At the top of each fader for channels 1 to 8. There is a small box that has 1L or 1R on it.

For each channel in the mixer view set them up as follows

Channel 1 - 1L
Channel 2 - 1R
Channel 3 - 2L
Channel 4 - 2R
Channel 5 - 3L
Channel 6 - 3R
Channel 7 - 4L
Channel 8 - 4R

You are able to change these settings by holding down the CTRL key and clicking with the mouse.

You should now be able to enable 8 tracks for recording in the arrange window.

thanks for that emeric , exactly what i was after , cheers for that.. I found u can actually do the same from the arrange window , just takes a little longer as u have to keep clicking on the audio tracks to change the input..
thanks a lot for that emeric ,

well cubase is running , but after i record eight tracks of drums and stick 8 waves compressor plugins on (one on each track) it plays ok for a bit then freezes... anyideas anyone?? starting to wonder bout cubase.....

its a p3 450 , 256mb ram , 7200 20gb h/d.. the motherboard and chip are intel... I use to have probs with plugins in logic , basically it just woulndt like things like reverb.. But cubase seems to take a few more its just it froze up when i had 8 compressors and 1 reverb plugin running.. All i had up was eight tracks.. Am i just hoping for too much? What about tweaking the system? ive done just about everything ive read , followed all the instructions at this site here ... http://www.studio201.com/cwu/ .. Dont get me wrong my pc absolutely pisses with speed , u press a button and it responds instantly , and it seems to be able to handle a lot of tracks too ... Just the plugin thing .. Ive got the latest direct x (dont know if that matters) too ... The system runs with 98% resources free when nothing is running.. With cubase open and about eight tracks with no plugins , its at about 88-90% ... To me this sounds pretty good .. what do u think emeric ?? cheers for that ..

Well your system should be able to handle that ok. Does the ISIS support ASIO? Have checked the settings under system tools?

The tweaking you read is a little out of date last I looked. I'll assume your running win98? No need for tweaking the settings for vcache. Leave your hardware acceleration alone as well, unless of course it does help.

Have you considered a dual boot setup? My weekly plug for two great products:

What the hell, 98lite.com brings you to some porn site now.. hang on sec I'll find it.

cheers for that emeric , but would that really help , the dual boot thing?? i only need to use one operating system cos the pc is solely used for recording (no office, games shit like that) or is there another reason for this? 98lite ??does it make a difference? it just didnt seem to have a heap of super tweaking options.. do u use any of these emeric? are they anygood..? well cheers for that ..

Well, since your using your machine just for recording a dual boot system isn't as important. As for 98lite, well it is a good optimizer, and the way I look at it any ounce of performance you can squeeze out of your system is worth it.

Did you check the ASIO configuration thing? Is your card running optimally? In tools/system it should say your latency in mS, what is it? Mines currently 47mS.

Not that this would have anything to do with your track/effect count problems, but it would tell me whether your using an ASIO driver.

i think it is an asio driver , just cos in cubase i can select this or a couple of others. Where exactly did you mean i should check that emeric? I presume its running optimally.... but then again , how do i tell ??...
I think i might have to wait and see if guilemot bring out drivers for win2000... i havent heard of any , but i havent checked for a few months... might check tonight actually...

since you brothers are on the pc topic can i get a lil help? i have a pc at 5400 13 gig hard drive, 450mhz ,128 mb ram. the mother board and chip is also intel. heres my problem. sometimes my pc totaly dies. it clicks a blue screen pops up and says fatal error. what is this? what can i do to stop it? i have scanned for viruses, defragmented the disc and scan the sisc surface for errors. no problem then the next day the same thing. should i back my stuff up and then reinstall windows 98? i use the pc for 80% recording and the rest for graphics and internet. no games and other crap. when i run a program i am at 75-80% and then it slowly decreases. is this ok or do i need to switch some settings? the guy who made the pc suggests to get a better cpu he says i should get 800mhz. i think he wants all my money brother.

Sometimes fatal exception errors are caused by software, other times by defective hardware. I've found if it is a randomly occuring error, about 90% of the time it's caused by defective memory. Do you have a single 128MB DIMM or 2 64's? If you have 2, try using just one and see if it happens again, if it does, try the other 64 by itself. If the problem doesn't occur, then the other piece of memory is defective.

If this doesn't work, then I would format the drive and reinstall 98 from scratch. Seems like a shotgun approach, but in the long run it's much faster than spending hours trouble-shooting some corrupt part of the OS.

hey emeric , latency is 94... does that sound right?? that was checking it in cubase.
Emerics right about starting over , sometimes its the quickest way . Im pretty use to it so i prefer to just reformat instead of spending hours figuring it out. Not always but certainly with some things. Hey king , you mentioned graphics?? what sort of hardware is associated with that ? im not a graphics wiz but ive heard that some 'u bewt supa graphics cards' can swallow up a lot of cpu power. Anyone can ellaborate on this myth?
by the way king , what your running is very similar to what i have, except im using another 128mg ram and the harddrives a 20gig 7200.. If u can opt for the 7200 drives , i noticed a huge difference. Also do u have any applications in the background? turn them all off , and if u need something running for a graphics card or something try setting up a new hardware configuration for when u use the pc for recording... get rid of the modem and anything else u can for this configuration. The only thing i have in this that may cause a prob is a network card to the other pc , but i havent had a problem yet. Have you got your pc running optimaly? This was easy for me cos i didnt have to worry about using it for other things so while the graphics wont support quake2 or something like that the performance is starting to show through.... after months of tinkering and reading articles......try a search for some tweaks u can do... good luck and let us know how u go...cheers all

brother i do graphics with photo shop 5 on my pc. i then take all my stuff and dump it on my brothers pc. he has various pcs with 95 98 windows nt and 2000. i use fractel, 3dmax, quark, photoshop and illustrator on his pc. im gonna check and see if the ram is 1 unit or 2 64 mb units. im also gonna back up all my stuff and reinstall 98. he told me the same thing you did emeric so i must follow your advice brother. spider how much did you pay for your pc? and specifically how much was the 7200 drive? ty brother

well i bought it about a year ago.. i think it was sold as a gaming computer , came with an awsome 3d graphics card (ripped that straight out), modem(gone!) , not to bad a soundcard (once again, gone) and 128meg of ram.. That cost me $2000 australian...whats that , about a thousand american , a bit less i think.. Then just wacked in the other 128 , that was about 200 at the time i think (aus.) and the harddrive was about the same (aus.) .. I think ill be going for something a little bigger next time though , hasnt quite got the guts i wanted from a computer ... might try mac next... anyone had some good experiences with them ?? well definetly try the ram and the reformat.. good luck...

hey emeric, whats up with the latency?? whats it there for .. Is it some kind of delay setting for the audio..... dont really have a clue actually...

Spider,

The latency refers to the amount of time it takes to - for example, move a fader and hear the volume change. The lower the number the better.

aaahhhh, i see..... thanks for that emeric. So mines not that good then eh? up around 90.... Is this to do with the soundcard or more the workings of the pute?

wow , that was quick emeric, cheers...
well stupid me wasnt thinking right ... 90ms is quite good isnt it? basically we wouldnt notice the delay would we ? or am i thinking superhuman hearing here!!... is there anyway to improve it or is there no need to..
im sure ASIO will soon be a marketting ploy, no longer will soundcards be coming out with there own drivers eh, more ASIO's.... but these are only a standard are they not?
