Do you have a Mixer with Insert Jacks on each channel, but no Direct Outs? Or maybe your Mixer has Direct Outs, but only on only the first 8 channels (such as a Mackie CR1604, Phonic Sonic Station 16, various Behringer mixers, etc.). Have you ever wanted to record a live concert, but also run the Front of House sound system from one mixer? Then you're in luck!
For sale is a specially-modified Hosa 8-channel 1/4" Unbalanced Snake that allows you to use your mixer's Insert Jacks as Direct Outputs, but still pass the signal on through to the mixer's main outputs. Normally, when you plug a regular, 1/4" Mono TS cable all the way in to an Insert Jack, it interrupts the signal so that it doesn't pass on through to the mixer's main outputs. The "solution" to this is to plug the cable in to the "first click" of the Insert Jack. Unfortunately, this can cause a very delicate and fragile connection that can easily be interrupted if a cable is bumped or tugged on even slightly, or if the Insert Jacks on your mixer are well broken in and the plugs don't fit snugly enough into the jacks.
However, by soldering a Stereo TRS plug on one end of the cable and shorting the Tip and Ring together, the signal will be sent both from the Insert Jack (like a Direct Out), but still pass on through to the mixer's main outputs as normal. This is perfect for recording live concerts where you want to send the signal from each channel to a Multitrack Recorder or Computer Recording Interface, but you also want the signal passed through to the Main Outputs of the mixer for connection to the Front Of House PA System. It's also perfect for recording in a studio where you want to use the Main Outputs of the Mixer to connect to your Monitor Speakers for a Control Room or Headphone Mix.
I hand-soldered all of the connections and personally tested out each channel in my studio. Other than the modification, the snake is in Like New condition. This snake is approx. 8 feet in length.
