8 Channel digital recording on my Pentium III for under $1000??

Hey all..Very nice page and discussion forum you got going here.

I have a Pentium III, 128 megs of ram, running NT, 13.6 gig harddrive, service pack 5. Have a Soundblaster 56 voice soundcard. I want to be able to record 8 channels of audio simultaneously and eventually mix down to two to burn to CD-R. Is it possible to spend under 1K to get the cards/software/etc (not including the cd burner)? I've seen something called the layla..what is this? Thanks for your help, noam

Well...almost...
I know prices have fluctuated a bit but from what I have seen and read...this is the cheapest way to get 8 tracks into a PC.

I would suggest getting Guillemot's maxi studio ISIS, wich goes for $399 and has a very cool synth in it. It has 8 ins and 4 outs, but it can still be used as a standard sound card... The Alesis 12R is ThE mIxEr for the job for sure, but I would suggest using cakewalk pro 8, 'cos it can handle midi, wich is cool for using the ISIS's synth. It's worth the extra bucks
