My beta58 stopped serving me an hour ago.
I took the windscreen of it for mic'ing a guitar amp, and since than the only sound I can get out of it is when I turn the pre-amp at MAXimum input-gain, and tick on the side of the mic.

I guess it has to do something with 2 little thin T-shaped metal pieces the windscreen hits everytime it is being pulled of the mic.
Touching them gives a little pop too.

And the worse part... I just had it for 2 days.

And the worst part... I bought it second-hand from a guy I don't know (yeah I DO blame myself already).

Anyone had this before? Thanks!

btw; It's not a beta A, it just says Shure beta58, looks rather old.

Well you learned your lesson. Sorry man.

If it makes you feel any better I bought a Beyer M88TG off Ebay for $172.50 + $9 shipping + $9 shipping to Beyer + 148.50 for diaphram replacement. Total = $346 OUCH!!!

So the lesson I learned is that is someone says a microphone sounds tinny or is in rough shape but works, I pass on the deal unless it is really old like an RCA 44/77DX or Neumann U47 Tube.

On the bright side you have a cool prop mic. There is the possibility that you can get it fixed for like 50 dollars though. I was given a Sennheiser 441 for free that sounded broken and had a broken clip. It turned out it was only ONE wire loose. So for $89 and a bit of time, I have a working 441. NOT BAD!!

You win some and lose some I guess.

Once again sorry though.

Well maybe it's also just one wire here.. were did you find yours?

I didn't I sent it of to Sennhesier and let them find it. The repair cost $59.95 and the the clip was like $20 I think. That seems like way to much for a clip huh?
