7 string or baritone guitar?

I am keeping my main E standard guitar for rock, jazz, blues etc. I plan of getting a second guitar for some detuned stuff like melodic death.

There aren't many baritones but I really like the very deep bass tone, then again 7 string will make drop tunes stuff easier (I can drop tune on a baritone?)

Anycase which do you guys think is better for metal particularly melodeath?

Personally, I'd vote for a detuned 6 string. I have a 7 string, and I play death metal, and I never really use it for that. I like it more for prog stuff. Personal preference though at the end of the day.

I'd recommend you try playing a 7-string for a while before you make a final decision.

I would personally go for the down-tuned option, but that's because experience has showed me that my fingers are too short and stumpy to play instruments with extra-wide necks (at least for bass).
