Hey everyone, I am just wondering where I can possibly purchase a 7-pin XLR mic cable for use with a tube mic that I have. The build quality of my current cable feels like it is less than optimal - I wouldn't mind picking up another.

Also, I would be willing to build one if I could find the right cable. Does anyone know what kind of cable/wire would work well to build such a cable? I know I can find 7-pin XLR neutrik connectors around, but I was never sure what kind of cable would do the trick.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hmm, I've been wondering about that myself. I have a V69M and it would be nice to have a backup cable. I checked MXL's website and they don't seem to sell them. Maybe I'll email them.

Keep your eye open at the Studio Projects site.
They are supposed to be coming out with a high quality replacement cable for their tube mics that is better (sounding) than the stock one.

If you can solder, you could just make one. Just go online and order Mogami or Canare 4 pair cable and some 7 pin XLR connectors. You'll only use 3 pair and the sheild. Check and mark each end of the cable with a voltage meter. (use the impedance selection). Tin the ends, tin the XLR points and go. You'll need a little vice to hold the connector while you solder. You can get the cable at places like this:

You can find the pinouts for 7-pin XLR online, too. You just need to know which is the sheild and then it should be: pin one male to pin one female, pin two male to pin two female, etc.

I'm sure if I've got this wrong you'll see a correction soon, but this is how I made the cables for my 3 Royer modded v67Gs. Of course, those were 5 pin XLR.

Yes!

Philgood that looks good - that's the kind of part I was looking for. I appreciate it a whole lot - I just need to find out which pins to connect with what then I am good to go.

Thanks everyone else for your feedback - I defintely will also keep my eye out on Studio Projects website to see if they have replacement ones out there. Thanks much!
