Does having a 5 band EQ or a 7 band Eq make the world of difference to the sound quailty of the mixer.

Fo example my Mackie DFX 6 has a 2 shelving eq's on each channel and a seperate 5 band eq for the whole mix.

Where as the Soundcraft epm has 3 band eq on each channel and a swept mid on mono .

Dave:)

more bands of equal quality will give you more control, but you are probably better off not using either one

A parametric EQ will suit you better than a graphic equalizer, no matter how many bands.

No difference in quality, just more tools to play with / get the right sound with.

The more pots you have on an EQ strip, the more likely you'll be given semi-parametric options... so you'll be able to aim the cut/boost from one pot to a certain frequency.

Yea, I suppose an EQ with fixed frequencies is really just like a graphic EQ with fewer bands... but a semi-parametric mid range adjuster would be more valuable to me than a 5- or 7-band graphic.

I'd much rather have the sweepable mids on the Soundcraft. You can always add an outboard EQ for the main buss (think 31 bands, not 5), but if the channel EQ sucks, it takes a whole lotta hardware, one in each channel insert to fix that.

on a functional level it's most likely no big deal as we're dealing with the lower end here... but personally i would much rather have the swept mid...

I'd also much prefer the sweepable mids on the Soundcraft, and the three bands on each channel.
