just bought one and wanted to know what kind of quality to expect from it. also is having 8 tracks instead of 4 on a tape a noticable difference in quality. and whats the best way to convert to cd, shoot the raw tracks into a pc with the midi. any input on this machine is welcomed. thanks

how much

I saw one of these at a local used dealer for $450 is that a good deal?

can you tell how many hours they have on them?

i payed 265(plus shipping), but track 7 don't record, the input works though. used they are worth 400 or so. i got mine on ebay.

The 688 was the high-techiest Portastudio ever made.

It has many uses and configurations, depending on what you're after.

You may just record and mix everything on the 688, and send a stereo mixed signal to the PC audio soundcard LINE INs, and record your masterpieces in basic stereo, 16/44.1, and burn cd's with the WAV files.

That's one method. There are others.;)

what other options are there? could someone explain more in detail, and what the best way is ect.. should i use the 8 tracks or 4?

i should recieve the unit, with manual, by this weekend. i just was trying to get a head start now, maybe there are some tricks or better ways to do things. the manual will cover alot i'm sure also.
