Ok this isn't a question for me it's for my friend. I have spend a total of $2600AUS on my studio so I'm more into the "budget" world of recording but he's saved $6000AUS and wants to buy a studio, now this is a shitload of money and he's put alot of the pressure on me.

He's going to do an "SAE" corse that uses pro tools and logic so he wants his studio to revolve around logic. He'll be recording and Mixing Rap (not my cup of tea) but here's what I had in mind.

DELTA 1010 soundcard
Mackie HR824 8 inch Powered Monitors
Microphone of his choice
Studio Projects B1 (just to have a 2nd mictophone)
Stands
Pop filter
Cables

If you guys could help me I'd be very greatful. Here are some sites that are in australian dolalrs

www.musicianswarehouse.com.au
www.venuemusic.com.au
www.derringers.com.au

thank you again like I said I'm a little out of my league

Everything looks good except the soundcard.

Have him carefully consider other brands like Presonus, RME and Mark of the Unicorn. Also Focusrite has a nice new firewire inteface that I've heard good things about.

How you get audio into the computer is one of the most important links in a good-sounding audio chain and some looking around now may prevent a quick punt of an inferior device...

About an hour out (Victor Harbor) but he'd be going up there to get his stuff.

Oh and I ment to add a mixer to the list as he wants "hands on" mixing.

I really don't know why he asked me, as I mainly deal with multitracks.

Also he wanted a "vocal prosesser"

Allens in Gawler Place has a nice recording section downstairs, and they're usually good for giving a good price if you ask for it

Yeah I've delt with allans before. Supposidley he has contacts with derriingers though. ALso I think he wants to get some info on what to get. I've been into allans with no idea and talked to a salesman and almost walked away with shit i didn't really need. So I prefer to get my info before hand.

isnt a 1010 a bit much for doing just rap??

...or is he going to be recording LIVE instruments for the instrumental track?

He's recording turn tables and voices and I guess he wants samples to

I'm really really out I know he wants high qualliy...I'm just ehhh

Victor Harbour - the home of good Aussie pub rock?
Australian Rock History stops there often.
Hey South Aussie folk, anyone there ever see Young Modern? (Before they became the Zimmermen) Mind you that was late 70's - The 2nd greatest music export from SA ever.
Cheers & Hi
Sorry I don't have anything to offer the thread - pig ignorant I'm afraid.

Funny you should mention them. My dad's best friends with Mark from Young Modern. They just recently re-released one of their CDs

Young Modern re release????
I had to digitize & restore my LP to listen to them.
Could you send me ANY details about what & where from.
I have a great Young Modern Poster in my studio.
I'd be endebted to you for any info.

This is what i found from googling it. If this isn't what you're after let me know and I'll get onto my dad to find out where to get it

WOW mx_mx,
It's Christmas at Easter.
Thanks for the link. That's the LP I digitized + bonus tracks. UNREAL - diff cover but who cares about that? YM called the postumous LP of demos, singles & EP Play Faster as all the punk & Chisel etc. fans would shout that at them when they played their power pop tunes.
I bought the Zimmermen's 2 LPs (& on CD too) Rivers of Corn & Way Too Casual if I recall. Mark & Co are/were legendary to too few people for their true stature.
I saw YM at the Satgedoor in Sydney & I think the other band that night was either the Thought Criminals (did a reunion gig last month) or the Reels when they were still called the Brucelanders - now they played really fast back then.
Thanks for googling for me. I used to search every few months but gave up. Obviously the wait was worth it.
I'll get about ordering a copy when the working week is back in gear.
Again THANKS HEAPS.
Cheers

Thumbs up on a Delta 1010LT...

People who specialize in Rap / R&B have live instuments to mic up too (depending on styles)...

Also, who the hell wants to patch cables all day long... (I have a Firewire 410, so trust me, it's ghey)....

Plus, I am of the understanding that you can add multiple cards to this arrangement.. SOOO, if he, someday, decides to make "secular-to-HipHop" money, he'd be geared up to go...

On the other hand, if he's into PT, mixing controllers, and a some inputs... Why not go the distance and wait/save to score a M-Audio ProjectMix... Then he can have his PT M-powered, Logic, control surface, preamps, ETC...all in the same box...

/end ramble..
