Fun tune!! You've got the guitars balanced well, and the vocal sit in nicely. For my taste, I'd have the drums about 1.5dB louder and a little more arse on the bass, but it's a good pop mix...

Plus, mostly, it's just good to talk to you again, my friend. :)

Oh, wait I just read the rest of the thread. downloading the new one, wait a sec...

OH, see, now THERE you go MUCH better. It has more life, it's breathing better... Greg gave you GREAT advise (Brit spelling on purpose) and you paid attention. Excellent..

Phil, it's always good to see a fellow pie-in-ear of the mp3.con days.

What can I say? Limited space and neighbours has forced me into a modest little recording setup where I do the odd "saturday band", you know...in and out the door with a 3 song demo in 8 hours. I've been recording with the V-drums for a while and usualy get pretty good "v-drum" results. For this recording (8 songs in total) we went with real Hats because the drummer constantly bounces his left leg in time and you just can't get a tight hat sound from a HH control pedal when you play that way.

This led me up an ally I'd never been before 'cause in superior 2.0 you can adjust the bleed from each kit piece into the overheads and the room mics as well as all the other kit pieces. Always works a treat but as soon as you put a pair of 12" super sharp and pingy Meinl's in a 14' x 10' x 7'6" room in there that you can't bleed into the other mic's the whole thing just sounded odd.

If there's one guy on here with a consistantly good recorded drum sound it's Greg, which lead me to asking him some questions on another thread. Ofcourse he came to the rescue with some sound advice that really helped gel my hybrid drum recording.

In hindsight I should have titled this thread "6 years reading and still asking questions = improved results"

I originaly went with a short plate on the snare, used a 60/40 of overhead and room mic and used the room verb from my Yamaha N12 desk (which is the same one on their RevX unit) on the hats. Result = non convincing. So the questions asked and the answers yeilded were just what I was looking for. As soon as I killed the room mic and set up the aux buss with a room verb and sent everything there the mix opened up and gave me (breathing) space like you mentioned to fit everything else in.

I keep coming back here when I have questions and I try to answer some as well if I see anyone with a problem with a situation I've been in or a bit of gear I have experience in using. That's what makes this place home recording and I hope it stays like this forever.

Great song and performance!
Can't find anything wrong recording-wise, it sounds pretty pro to me. Great performance and singing. Somehow it took me back to 1979 something....
Well done!
