in my earbuds it sounds great...but you really can't tell with earbuds.

love the guitar tone for the song.
i wish real drums could sound like superior drummer!

I like it. I noticed that your location says Glasgow, Scotland but I was going to say that this song has a Canadian sound to it (whatever that is ;) )
Thanks for posting.

This could be my real player but I think the highs are a little bright and overpower my speakers or software at times. I like bright, but like I said it might just be my player. I like the song.

good work... it's got a ray davies (kinks) kinda vibe... a good example of capturing the vibe despite low musicianship...

Hmm... Everything sounds pretty good. Try taking some reverb off of the vocals. Boost the drums a tad. Other than that, it's all good.

Good song too!

Well, the musicianship sounds ok to me
good song, pretty good recording.

Sounds pretty good!

Here's what I hear:

* vocals need the shine you get out of expensive mics to sound pro

* drums need more presence (kinda lost)

* gtr tone is good but sticks out a bit too much (maybe limit the peaks) and hogs out the vox track, I like the tone but about half way through it was wearing me out

* there's something there I like

thanks for all the pointers. I've got some tweaking to do.

Great bass tone.
Good guitar tone.
Drums sound good - could be a little louder.
The guitar solo is very Bill Nelson but short!
The vocals sound pretty good.
The cymbals go beyond shimmer & into sizzle.
It's a good song - that's a point I though should be made.

everything taken into consideration I've done a bit of tweaking.

Brought the drums up and added a little more room mic.

EQ'd the main guitars and tried to tame the peaks.

Tried using REVERENCE on the main vox instead of the UAD plate 140...first time I've used this plug in cubase 5.

Still having trouble getting a balance between the cymbals and the ride...too much of one not enough of the other.

I don't think this is ever going to be a great sounding mix but if you've already listened to the first mix I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on the second one.

It's sounding better. Drums are still strange sounding. Ya, it sounds much better.

This is to answer a question from another thread:

Hey LT, I hear what you mean about the hats. But....they sound like what 12" hats are supposed to sound like. They are naturally tinny and bright. Not really suited for this kind of playing/music. This style of drumming and song could really be better served with 13 or 14" hats. Personally, I like 14's and 15's. My hats are 15" ers. But these don't sound bad. They're just the wrong hats for the job.

Anyway, that's what you have and that's what you tracked, so no biggee. My only nit with the hi-hats is that they don't really sound like they're in the same space as the rest of the drums. This can be fixed by dropping them down in the mix and bussing that track to whatever reverb you're using on the kit as a whole. In the future, if you wanna use real hats with e-drums, just don't mic em so close. I personally never mic my hats. They get picked up plenty in the overheads, but I could see why you'd obviously need to mic them with e-drums. Just move the mic away a little further.

As for the song and mix, I think it's pretty dang good. Good, tasteful drumming. Good job overall.

i heard this through some decent computer speakers and it sounds pretty good to me. i like the songs too. for programmed drums it sounded really good and natural. if there wasn't mention of that i would have guessed it was a real kit. Nice job :)

They're not programed, they're e-drums played by a human :D

Greg,

thanks for looking in. I'll give that a try. Only verb I used was on the snare, everything else is room mic from superior 2.0 which I can't buss the real hats to. Maybe I need to try ditching the room mic and use a room verb as a send and send a bit of kit and hats to that....hmmm, more bloody work. :o

Yeah try that. Get the drums as dry as the hats, then send them both to a single room 'verb so they sound lik ethey're in the same space.

I am listening to it through ear buds and I can tell that it sounds good through my ear buds. :p

Nice job, man. It sounds great! :D

You guys have been great. Big thanks to Greg L for the drum tips.

Here is the final revision with the room mic from Superior 2.0 muted and a drum room reverb set up on an Aux buss where I sent all the E-Drums and the Meinl hihats. Sounds a bit more together although I'm still only 80% happy with the cymbals. Time to talk the wife into letting me use brass on recordings and keep the rubber cymbals for practice sessions only

I used the UAD precision multiband on this mix to try and tighten things up a little from previous versions and the UAD Precision limiter to bring it up a DB or 2 without stomping on it. It's a wrap!
