528E w/DI box

An active DI uses an op-amp. Op-amps have a high impedance input and a low impedance output by design. That is why it is an ideal component for the job. Passive DI uses resistor/capacitors to create the same input/output impedances. Active DI boxes are much cleaner and don't load down the input signal like a passive box. Actives need power (phantom, battery) to operate. Passives don't. I would definately go active. Actives also usually have an extended frequency bandwidth.

acorec,

Thanks for the response.

Do you have any experience with the ART TubeMP StudioV3, or any of its predecessors?

Would you use something like that for a DI box (to record acoustic/electric guitar to Pro Audio, through a Symetrix 528E), or would it be better to use something like the Klark Teknik LBB100?
