None are really "hot"/ If you are looking new, you have about 5 choices. It depends on if you need "realistic" sounds or ambient/analogish sounds. Which is it.?batchmister1 said:

They are apparently discontinuing S03, so it is going for $400 in the stores. I would have bought one but they were sold out at both local stores. I ended up spending just a bit more and getting the Yamaha MM6 and really like it. Its not programmable like the SO3 but has nice sounds. The older ones have metal bodies, the newer ones plastic, the newer ones LED is larger, otherwise not much difference, get a metal one if you choose this route.
I have one, it is not bad for the money. I bought mine when they first came out.

Another vote for the S03. I still use and love my S80 (the big daddy of the S03). I recommended the S03 to a guitar playing friend who plays a little bit 'o keys in his band, and we headed to Guitar Center to try one out. Pretty decent little board IMO.

The keyboard action on the S03 is absolutely horrible.
I would dig up a used Roland XP30 before I ever considered the S03.

I miss the XP30 I used to own and it really did have great action.

Yeah, i actually like the microkorg but it's too limited for me to actually buy it. It depends on what you want though. Realistic, nope. I'd probably try to find a motif rack if i were you used, i've seen them for about $600 here and there. That's how i would spend my money. This assumes you don't need a sequencer and you have some sort of controller.zacanger said:
