500 bucks...Powered or Passive monitors...

I just had a debate with a friend about Powered vs Passive (w/amp) monitors in the $500 price range.

I've heard great things about the JBL 25P's (great sound which also save some precious space) but he feels I would get something better if I buy passives and a separate amp??

Any thoughts??

I've had my JBL's for about 3 weeks.... and still think they are great.... and although they are a small speaker... I still seem to get a good bass response, and plenty of volume,,, for a bedroom. Also you can't beat the price at MF, $480 a pair.... good luck

Yeah...size is a big factor for me until I build a basement studio. I also have to work in a bedroom for now.

When I move to the basement I'll take my Thiel monitors off my stereo system and use those as well...

Thanks for the input. I think that's finalized my decision to buy the JBL's...
