bollocks redux!

I saw a lot of talk about this on Gearslutz and got curious. They were intially going for $0.99 each for the first 1,000 but those sold out. I just pre-ordered 3 of the new $5 which are supposed to have improved spl and frequency response. Total for three with shipping was $20! The new ones are supposed to go out in September. I spoke to a guy there and he said that this was his response to the "Pepsi Challenge" issued by Harry Freedman-- the guy who owns Rode Microphones.
Here's the link for the Gearslutz thread-- it was started by the guy who does the listening session.

ha ha A $5 CONDENSOR MIC

I spell condenser like that too. Seriously what is the deal with these? Why're they 5 dollars?

sorry-- i was still so amused by this that I didn't explain the "Pepsi Challenge." The guy who owns Rode made this ad in a magazine for the NT-1A's where he says/writes "What's next, the $1.99 condenser microphone?" Waylon Ford of Karma Audio apparently decided to answer the call.
I personally love my Rode mics for everything, but it'll be neat to have some "disposable" condenser mics that I can use w/ reckless abandon (e.g. toms, inside the microwave, etc.)

because they're cheap to make and karma wants to attract attention to their line of mics.

yea, stick one in your butt and record the sounds of your internals.......give it to a friend when your done.

oh definitely-- this will most certainly get them some publicity.
i can't wait to get sick of them and to try to sell them used for $3.25 each.

i use an audix d-6 for that because of the extended low end response

i thought you might use one of those big o rode tube mics. :D

These would probably be OK Mics if they had better Elements as they use a Fairly low quality Capsule as the Frequency responce is worse than most Dynamics (50hz to 13Khz) but if they put in a Better element/capsule with a better frequency responce then I would probably buy a Dozzen.....

One thing I am wondering is how they get the output impedance so low (200ohms) as most condenser elements are extremely high Impedance.....

Maybe the new updated versions will have a better element...

Cheers
