Hello all.
I purchased a used Tascam 488 many months ago and sunk about $150 into repairs prior to use. The guy who did the work came highly recommended and everything seemed fine at first. I managed to record some great sounding material, but a MAJOR problem I've been having is that the playback levels have become virtually non-existant either entirely or at random. The levels _appear_ fine when recording, but as soon as I try and listen back, they have all but vanished. I am diligent with cleaning and care and I've had this unit in for analysis a second time and was assured everything was top-notch, yet this problem continues to persist. Since I've been successful with recording using the same 488 in the past and am doing nothing different, I wondered if anyone can give me ANY insight as to what the problem may be. It's getting to the point where one of us will be going out the window soon! Save us both!!
