Hi guys, i'm a new user at this forum and i already read some cooool stuff here...congrats for the amazing forum.

So, i'm an audio engineer working with post production stereo and surround. I have 40m2 to build my studio.

The idea is to have a 5.1 control room and a smaller recording room, for small instruments and voice.

below i will post the plans that i made so far.

Im not sure about the walls and acoustic treatment. if you can give me some advice it would be great. i will post the room modes calculator (for the control room).

thanks in advance for ur time and ideas guys

cheers

It looks like you are way ahead of my pay grade already, Bud. If you can afford all that double wall construction and knew enough to draw that up it shouldn't be very hard to copy a typical treatment scheme.

It is refreshing to see a plan where the control room is bigger than the live room.

Ah yes...modes. I've heard of those. Or nodes. Something.

Where is this? Your house? Commercial or industrial space? So, how do you get into the control room? I assume you want a door at the end of the hallway :D. I see you have double stud construction on that wall. If you put a simple single door, you'll probably still get a lot of sound into the hall. If you need 'sound-proof', I'd consider putting in a second door at the opposite end the the hallway. That puts 2 doors between you and the outside of your studio.

Also, regarding your wall angles... I think i read somewhere that 12 degress was kind of a minimum angle for positive results. I'm definitely not the authority here, but something to look into.

I think what Lou was referring to as far as a typical treatment scheme was the standard treated corners and first reflection points. (Be conscious of where you put that door so you can treat the corner). You can go from there. Beware of anyone who trys to tell you how great eggcrates and/or foam are.

How big is the recording room?

You can see some comparative stc ratings for walls here. STC Ratings The bigger question is, where is this and what kind of noises are you trying to combat? Are you by a highway trying to keep out ambient? Are you in a multi-tenant space where you have to keep your noise in?

Have you checked out John Sayers site/forum? If not, look him up.
