does anyone know how to hook up a 4track to a computer to mix down and burn on to cd? do i need a cable with usb/rca input/outputs or something? thanks. unwound474@msn.com
Take a line out of your 4-track (probably RCA) and run it into the line in on your soundcard (1/8" stereo). So, you'll need an RCA to 1/8" stereo cable. Then you'll need some recording software. For two track stereo you can use something like goldwave http://www.goldwave.com
Of course what you're going to be thinking soon after mixing down to the computer for the first time is "why the heck don't I just record on the computer?" Indeed! http://www.fasoft.com
Getting the right cable should do it. Which cable depends on the output of your 4-track and the input of your soundcard. I don't know about USB. 4-track outputs seem to be mainly RCAs. Soundcard inputs can be 1/8th" stereo, RCAs, 1/4" jack plugs. Shouldn't be too much trouble to sort out.

Not to belabor the issue, but just about any computer that still works will give you more than 4 tracks and probably sound better than your 4-track. And n-track (the www.fasoft.com link) is one fantastic program for its price.
And with computer recording you'll find tons of *free* effects.
