It has a 20mm diaphragm, same as the 603. Not an LDC. I don't like it on my voice. Seems to work for a few other folks here. It's cheap enough to buy one and try it - sell it if you don't like it.Stan the man said:

No, the MXL 990 is not a LDC... it has the same diaphragm as the MXL603S.
I currently own a Beringer UB1002 mixer, are those preamps good for the job?
Not IMO, but if that's all you have... use it.
Oh, and something else: what's the advantage of miking the guitar with two MXL603's instead of one?
It may or may not be an advantage... but with a matched pair of mics you could record in stereo and etc.
